It's a Sitecom 54G Turbo WLAN Router. It's an ADSL line, it's on all day and sometimes gets turned off in the night.
At random moments (I'm on a laptop, my desktop is connected to it with a cable and has the same problem, therefore it's not my laptop's receiver or something) the signal is completely lost, it immediately returns and then it has a small yellow exclamation mark stating "No internet connection". After 10 seconds everything is fine again.
Any ideas where to start looking? Is it turned on for too long? Is it a physical problem?
How old is the router? If it's older than a year or so, see if you can update it's firmware.
I looked for the latest version, it's the same. Is there a possibility that the firmware corrupts over time?
I don't know exactly how it works in Belgium, but in the UK sometimes our exchanges can have problems that result in loss of connection and are usually fixed in a few days by the people controlling it.
It's just gotten worse the past 2 days, before that it was once every hour, and before that once a day.
your internet router is plotting to kill you
I have the same problem with my netgear. I think it might be some device being turned on in my house but that is a far shot.
Reset the modem three times now, problem persists. Also sending emails to the customer service (which is lightning fast)
Check to see if your external IP changes each time the router restarts itself. Go to whatismyip.com to find out.
The problem is nearly gone when only I am on the network (so if the other pc's off)
Then there might be an dynamic IP conflict on your network. Plug in all computers, then unplug your router, modem, wireless(es)(if you have them) and wait a minute or two. Then plug in the modem until it connects to the internet, then plug in the router next in line after the modem, and so on until all your routers are plugged in. Leave ALL your computers on and plugged into the network while this is happening.
Okay sorry for rebumping, but the problem's back. So at the moment I'm on my desktop which is wired to the router via a LAN cable. As soon as my brother's laptop connects to the network, the internet dies every 5 minutes (for both computers). I checked and both obtain their IP's automatically and both have a different name.
