• hl2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close
    15 replies, posted
I just reformatted my computer to factory settings after it continuously automatically restarted it self as soon as I logged into my desktop. Now I always get the hl2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close error everytime I start gmod, and gmod only. Hl2dm and everything else works fine. What are all the known solutions? I've already tried -dxlevel81,80,and90 and running in windows mode with and without the dxlevel commands aswell. Anything else?
Help?
Download the latest directx?
Reinstall gmod, make sure there aren't currupted files in gmod or other valve games, this happened with hl2 for me, and it was because certain files had been missing. Just reinstall everything, if that doesn't work then I am sorry D:
Update all of your drivers.
Where do I go to update my drivers?
For Graphics drivers (which are the main ones to update), it depends what card you have. Tell us your graphics card and we'll find you the latest drivers.
If your running 7 windows update does a fine job of updating drivers. If not, go to http://nvidia.com/ or http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx depending on your card and find a driver for it. Make sure it's the latest, then install it. With fresh installs, usually GFX card drivers aren't included by default except by integrated graphics cards. After you install the suitable driver then restart and you should be good.
The thing is, it's an integrated chip. And When I first got my computer I got the same problem and solved it somehow but cant remember how.
they usually can't run HL2 bro
I can play everything except gmod at the moment, just fine. Gmod worked before I reformatted my computer, it's not a hardware problem, merely a software, or lack of updating problem which I trying to exact on. Read the op, it worked with the same hardware before, bro.
If its a reformat thats caused the problem, its the lack of something you had before, update your chipset drivers, that will update the integrated chip for graphics, All else fails, grab a cheap ass PCI-E Graphics card and that would probably help take the strain off of the rest of the PC
Fixed it. Close thread. Updated all of my hardware.
Fixed it. Close thread. Updated all of my hardware.
wait, pm me how you resolved this issue. i have the same problem on one of my 2008 intel integrated computers (it used to be able to run Garry'sMod as well)
I too, have this same problem. I'm using gmod on my 2007 Dell Inspiron 1520. And Magman, if you don't mind, could you forward that PM to me when you get it? Edit: Nevermind, looks like he got the banhammer. Perhaps the OP can send the solution to me? :D
Just update all of your hardware and reinstall everything.
