i5 3317u 1.7Ghz dual core, Intel HD 4000 graphics, and 4GB of RAM. I want something ludicrously chunky and brutal to blow off some steam. Preferably a proper 3D graphics FPS, I know DOOM and friends will run on anything.
Postal 2 and UT2004 should run to some degree.
Can it run Brutal Doom?

Quake 1-3 should run fine Unreal Tournament/Unreal should run as well.
brutal doom if you're into that sort of thing
Soldier of Fortune might suit your fancy, though you'll have to track down a physical copy.
I recommend Project Brutality if you can be arsed setting it up. I find it more fun than "Vanilla" Brutal Doom, esp with the UDV hud
Project Brutality is Brutal Doom++, though it probably runs even worse. Try it, though.

Otherwise that would be my choice. If you need the CD as some form of DRM then you're kinda fucked.
As mentioned earlier, Soldier of Fortune 1 & 2 is one of the best gory shooters out there that'll run on any PC if you can get a copy, and Postal 2 is on Steam. Other than those, I think the first Killing Floor might do fine as well, and it's got plenty of chunky gore and fun both solo and co-op.
Return to castle wolfenstein. DO ET.
Unreal Gold is pretty great tbh not exactly massively gory for good for the exploring value

Team fortress 2 :v:
Serious Sam and Painkiller might work for you. Unless they are already covered by Doom and co.
i second postal 2. super gory, super great at blowing off steam, AND it features my nipple in it [sp]and the faces of several FP members[/sp]
Well Postal two has two of my nipples in it! I'll probably be doing Postal 2 since I already own it.
Soldier Of Fortune 2
Soldier of Fortune might suit your fancy, though you'll have to track down a physical copy.
From what I understand the community edition works straight off the bat.
FEAR Bulletstorm Fallout 3/New Vegas Painkiller I was able to run them all somewhat decently on my old laptop with 4500MHD, I assume it would work on HD 4000. Bulletstorm didn't run amazingly, maybe 30 FPS on all low and the lowest supported resolution but I was able to beat it. Being a UE3 game you should be able to tweak it for better FPS.
Serious Sam (first & second encounters) if you are okay with repetitive shooters
