• I don't dare installing new drivers. Can someone help me?

So, my nvidia drivers are not up-to-date and I want to install new drivers because I heard it keeps the card fresh. But, I had some bad experiences with drivers, last time I installed drivers my computer screw itself over and set my res to 800x600 with inverted colors. I had to pay alot of money to get it fix'd. Can someone assist me in finding working drivers for a 9800GT. Also, does it make games run better?
Installing drivers is pretty straightforward. But if you want to really make sure, download the appropriate drivers from the official site (or if you want to be super sure, the manufacturer's website), uninstall the old drivers, restart, install the new drivers and restart again. The fast method: Download and install. Just make sure you select the right drivers.
Just go to Nvidia's site, download the drivers for your card and OS and run the file. Very simple and straightforward. As a side note, who charged for something as simple as driver cleaning?

Yeah, every driver update has pretty much a performance increase for specific games, you can see it on the changelog before you download.
Ok, so I'm about to download this: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-260.99-whql-driver.html Will it work, I really don't dare. [editline]28th December 2010[/editline] Should I do it?
Yes goddamnit, if it will break again (it won't), we'll help you anyway :buddy:

[editline]28th December 2010[/editline] Should I do it?
Just do it, it's not complicated. Just click next-next-next-next-ok-next-done. Or something like that. Oh, and your screen will flash a few times during the process, that is normal.
Ok so this is gonna happen basically: 1. I install it using the internet :science: 2. I open it on my computer. 3. Scared shitless. 4. Press next a thousand times. 5. It installed. 6. Everything went better then I expected. But I know that it will fail somehow. I just know it. Is there any way to backup your drivers/computer before doing this?
Use system restore. Which is already in use unless you changed some crucial system settings. If something goes wrong, use system restore to revert to pre-update state.
GUYS! I LOVE YOU! It improved performance on FO: NV a little!
See, was that really so hard?
See, was that really so hard?
Yeah, actually, I needed to convince myself ALOT before I did it, also when it was installing I hid under my chair in fear. [editline]28th December 2010[/editline] Also, do you need to restart the computer for full new effect?
Yep. Atleast you should. I almost never restart after installing something.
