• I need a graphics upgrade
    15 replies, posted
I've currently got a Core2Quad @2.4 with a ATi 2600XT, and I'm looking to upgrade the graphics. Problem is, my budget is fairly limited, and ideally I need to spend around the £100 mark (probably 9800GT, 8800GT range). Anyone got any ideas? Also, needs to be from somewhere I can get next day delivery (overclockers, otherwise) or retail (PCWerld :vomit:). I didn't put this in Building because it's only a part.
What's your power supply?
Unfortunately 350w
Brand?
Dell yes, I know it's a dell desktop, but the processor is a Core2Quad compared to my old Athlon 64 x1 - and the PSU is LiteON (but it'd be a bitch to take out). If the wattage on this one is too low, I'll have to upgrade the CPU and GFX in my homebuild.
Is it a slim case? If no, go for a 4770.
Looks OK. However, would I be better off in the long run getting a new mobo, CPU, and GFX for my build? 375w.
Your CPU is a Q6600?
In the dell yes, but in the build it's a AMD Athlon 64 @ 2.6 (AM2 - not AM2+)
Wait, what's this new build you're talking about?
aaaaa My current rig is a Dell (core2quad), which is the one I enquired about in the first place. My older build is the Athlon 2.6, with a 7600GT (I moved to the dell for the multicoring). What I asked for is an opinion if it would be a better idea to strip the Athlon, and build with a new mobo, cpu, and gpu.
I'm so confused.
How can you be? I just need an opinion as to if it would be a better idea for me to start from essential scratch, or upgrade the Dell
Which one do you want to upgrade? The Dell or the other one? Why did you start talking about two different PC's all of sudden?
Upgrade the Dell. A Q6600 is fine.
Get the ati 4770 for the dell, and for the am2 build I would say buy a dual core am2 cpu and that will be a good 2nd pc:buddy:
