I am planning on building a new gaming desktop since my older ones are starting to become "aged". Most of the time, I get a new laptop because of the maneuverability and the conveniance of being able to play games in the living room while the family is watching TV. I find it more comfortable, reduces eye strain, and keeps me from getting bored. The problem is that you can't really build a laptop for great deals and I still think that laptops are overpriced. I want to be able to have faux laptop of some sorts that I can use as a display device and as a keyboard. The mouse can be wireless for all I care. I'm thinking that I could use an old laptop, but I would have no idea how. Getting the signal to the display is no problem. I just don't believe supergluing a wireless keyboard and a monitor would go together well. It would be bulky and would not be ergonomic. At this point, I do not care if there are power cords. Do you believe I can set up an old laptop like this or is something like this on the market?
tl;dr Use old laptop or make a keyboard attached to a display to have a maneuverable desktop that is ergonomic and is comfortable.

I believe what I'm looking for is a KVM switch, but I don't know if it would work for gaming. I can't find the response times of the connection.
you could try synergy to transfer the keyboard and mouse, i don't know about the video though.

I think he's looking to use the laptop as more of a dumb terminal.

Doubt those are good enough to use while playing games.

That is exactly what I'm thinking. I also thought about integrating a screen into the desktop's case, but I don't want to have to make the case.

this looks insanely useful for me. I never thought to check if something like this existed. Thanks. :v:

In reality, none of them really are. Any kind of remote desktop will introduce a level of lag, especially if you crank up the quality settings.
If it's over LAN it shouldn't be THAT bad. Hell, even OnLive is playable, even with frenetic games like Just Cause 2.
I'd imagine that you'd need quite a hefty wireless network to get this to work, as a proper resolution display at 60hz is a lot of data to push through to a display wirelessly.

This works great, I've used my tablet to play all sorts of games over my network with this thing (It came preinstalled). I'd say it's on par with onLive in terms of responsiveness.
