• ASUS g74sx series worth the money?

Hey guys, I was recently looking for a good laptop that I could use for gaming and travel as I might be on the move a lot sometime in the next year or two and came across the ASUS-g74sx laptop that one of the computer stores in my town was selling($1400-$1600 depending on what model) and I was wondering if the computer is good and worth the money? I heard some bad things and good things about it on reviews sites and I'm not sure what to think about it yet. Do you guys recommend this laptop series? edit - Update from 2013: Shortly after I posted this, I actually ordered a G74SX-A1 and it is a pretty amazing laptop for it's set price! Except I had to pay a bit more due to some problems with the manufacturing and shipment but that's not bad. There are some problems with it, like the numpad not being set properly, but it is a pretty amazing computer!
As good as gaming laptops get, pretty much.
imo the MSI GT683-blahblahblah is better since it's got a GTX 570M and slightly better cooling in it. But both MSI, Asus, and Sager make amazing gaming laptops, you can never go wrong with them. [editline]21st November 2011[/editline] imo get a 15" though, my 15" G53JW is nearly as large as a normal multimedia 17".
Alright thanks guys. I know laptops aren't the best to rely on for age but do you guys have any idea on how old they would go before dying?

My dad had a sager when he went back to college(2000ish) and I used it for a while after, it was such a PoS, but I loved it, nice to see that they're still around

Earlier this year I got one with an HD6990M and and of the Sandy Bridge Mobile i7s(the 2.4GHz one) plus 8GB of ram, a 500GB HDD, an 80GB SDD and a 1080p screen for $1300.
Sager actually manufactures their own notebooks, so they're generally the most cost-efficient. Plus, they don't come with bloatware.

Sorry for asking but what model of Asus G74SX is acctually worth the money? I heard some of the different models of G74sx can be "annoying" (discluding g74sx's numpad issue).
I have this which i purchased recently and so far it runs like a well oiled machine running Skyrim on Ultra High with no lag whatsoever, ASUS G74SX-XA1 Republic of Gamers 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop. only 1400. good deal got it at frys with their 3 year warranty so total of about 1700.
There's really no difference between them really, or the differences are negligible.
Not true, there is one that is quite different. The G74SX-BBK7 uses a gimped 128bit GTX 560M and a 1600x900 screen while the other models typically use a 192bit GTX 560M and a 1920x1080 screen. For that price it should have a 570M or even a 6990M.
