I just bought a new computer for my wife to use for school. I cleaned out all the pre installed crap that comes on the computer, but its still running maxed out on the cpu usage when nothing is running. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834317808 If anyone has any suggestions, that might help. Its running windows 8.1 and i really dont have any experience with it.
the specs leave a looooooooot to be desired, which may be half of the problem. what does task manager say? screenshot?
She just runs word so not much is needed. I will get screen shot later today.
1.00 ghz cpu, didnt knew those still exist
I don't mean to be that guy, but those specs are awful for that price.
Windows 8 alone requires at very minimum 1GHz cpu. Windows runs a lot of crap just to run itself. While you think it's just word running, open task manager and click "show processes from all users". You'll see there's quite a bit running so yeah, a 1GHz cpu, even if it is a dual core, is going to be taxed a lot.

There's alot more to a CPU than just clock speed. Windows 8's minimum requirement probably means stuff like the old 1GHZ thunderbird athlons. Not only that, it's a dual core kabini chip which is not actually that bad. It would trade blows with the Intel atoms.
