• PCI-E 16x to 1x on a Dell E310

Ok, so I have a nice gaming PC with a GTX460 and a C2D. However, my brother sometimes wants to play with me. The only other PC we have is an old Dell Dimension E310, with a terrible Intel GPU that uses the 400MHZ System RAM as VRAM. It goes without saying that all games run terribly. I'm thinking a lot of this has to do with the GPU. Now, the only PCI-E it has is 1x, so it can't take regular 16x cards. However, I've seen that some people either modify the PCI-E slot or the actual connector on the card to allow it to fit in. (I think some motherboards even have premade slots in the PCI-E 1x connector) I have 2 old GPUs that I'm thinking of putting in. A 7600GS and a 9600GSO. The second would be nice, but I'm not sure the PSU could handle it. In any event, any GPU would be better than what's in there. So I'm asking. If I install the 7600 in the PCI-E 1x slot, would it work? As far as I know it's just lacking a few (lol) extra data lanes, and so should still work, but I'm not quite sure. And would the PSU be able to handle it? (I think it's 300-something Watts, I can try and get the exact number if you need it) And would it be able to handle any games (just Source games really, any settings will do; I'm open to DX8) SPECS: 3 GHz Pentium 4 630 1GB 400MHz(effective) DDR2 RAM Windows XP SP3
You'll have to cut off the end of the socket for it to fit.

surprisingly its has been done before
Even if you could get it to work, it would be running at such a low speed that It might not even be worth all the trouble.
