• Upgrading a HP

Well. Awesome day. The parents surprised me with a new desktop. ...and it's not a low profile case... This is it: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2365444,00.asp I already put the hard drive from my old computer in it. With it, and my external, I have 2.25 TB. No need to upgrade that. What would facepunch recommend as a graphics card? Price range is whatever you suggest. Looking for middle of the road. Not super cheap, but not top-of-the-line. Also, do I need more ram? (It has 4gb DDR3.) Is the processor sufficient for games? (AMD Athlon II X4 635) I THINK.nope. its the AMD Athlon II X4 630 ((whats the name of the program that tells you what your comps specs are? i forgot.))answerd Will I need a new power supply for adding the graphics card? Thanks! :science:
Speccy.

1) Run speccy and post results 2) Find out wattage of PSU 3) Give us an actual budget Then we can help you

You can get a decent PSU for 60-80 depending how many watts you want.
Your parents don't love you if they gave you an HP. Anyway, what games do you play and what is your budget?

That PSU says 250W with 14A 12V output. This means you'll want a very low power requiring videocard, in order to not need a PSU upgrade. The good thing is since you are running at 1400x900 resolution you don't really need a high power card. That said, if it were me, my first priority would be to upgrade that power supply. I'd go for a quality ~400W PSU that puts out in the range of 30A on its 12V output(or outputs if more than one). It shouldn't run more than $60(at Newegg).
Ok. I'll go look around.
With your quad core 4gb system, two hard drives, and later a decent vidcard, I think a good power supply is a smart investment. You will be more demanding on the computer than that 250W PSU was designed for. Four gigs of memory is fine for now. That should be the least of your priorities. Your parents got you a good setup, two items(PSU and vidcard) are all you need.

My friend went the same route, though he bought a Radeon HD 4770 before a PSU, it was fun watching his PC turn off aero and slow itself down all the time until he bought a new power supply.
