I'm looking for an inventory program for my dad's company. He has over 1k items in stock and has been looking for a way to take inventory more accurately.
What I have, is a barcode scanner and an excel spreadsheet containing all the UPC's and stock items.
I need a program that I can import the spread sheet into and take physical inventory by using the barcode scanner.

This got what you need?
believe it or not, I've already seen, downloaded and tried inflow. It seems that ever inventory program wants to be the entire database of my company, when all I need is something to help me take inventory.
And what I mean by inventory is not just going through everything once, but every quarter and recounting each item. Which is why I need a program designed to use barcodes to take rapid inventory.

I've discovered that pretty much all inventory type software was made to be the primary database for a company. My company already has its own and all I need is a program that will help me take physical inventory.
From what I've seen, my best bet would be to create macros in excel to do this.
Anyone know anything about excel macros?

Holy shit, just as someone I know is in need of an inventory program, I find this thread! Thanks!
Ubuntu should work nicely and has quite a user friendly interface too. This sounds good.
Just wondering if it has drivers for any old barcode scanner though?

You could easily export that excel data to a MySQL database. You're not going to find an inventory system that uses an excel database.
I been testing this inventory software for quite sometimes .. maybe you could have a look into it . . their website is at www.estockcard.com
There is a one great feature that I'm trying to get around it . . the design of the barcode label. . .:-)
MS Access comes with an Inventory template.
For small deploys MS access is actually a good tool
