Alright I installed my old 500gb hard drive. But when I boot up windows it says it's a 150gb hard drive. What happened ? And how can I fix this ?
Have you checked it in the Windows partition editor?
If you mean the disk management located in Computer management then yes.
So accoding to it, your entire hdd can only fit a 150GB partition?
No. I installed a 500gb Hard Drive that has never been put into partitions and now in My Computer it says it's a 150GB hard drive. When it CLEARLY is supposed to be a 500gb.
Return it, it's faulty.
Return it, it's faulty.
You are jumping to the RMA conclusion way too soon there
I've used this Hard drive before. And it was a 500gb before. I just lost all my stuff a while back and then I found out that I still have a 500gb hard drive laying around. So I decided to use it. And now it's a 150gb. This is how my Disk Management looks like: ( I'm a cat is the glitchy HDD )
you just partitioned it wrong, boot via the windows cd and see if you haven't left any space unused
Wouldnt he then see the unpartitioned space there?
Wouldnt he then see the unpartitioned space there?
He would. OP, I'd say the drive may have gone bad. Can you try it in a different computer and see if it does the same thing?
Well when I start up my computer it shows a list of hard drives. And I see a 150gb one and a 500gb one. So.. I'm not sure if it's a corrupted/bad HDD. And I can't really get a computer that I'm allowed to fiddle with at the moment.
I bet the MBR got fucked up...get anything valuable off it and nuke it
Try checking the jumpers. Some HHD's atleast old once can make them self "Smaller"
Try checking the jumpers. Some HHD's atleast old once can make them self "Smaller"
What are "jumpers" ?
I bet the MBR got fucked up...get anything valuable off it and nuke it
This has nothing to do with the master boot record. And in recovery console you can do "fixmbr" Check your BIOS settings, the drives setup could be faulty.. but if thats the case, the drive is probably in a failing state.

Try using a thrid party Partition editor, like EASEUS Partition Master. Maybe there is a partition that Windows isn't recognizing.
Not many people notice that :v:
Nevertheless, it's still funny
Use a linux Live CD and see if it's still 150 gigabytes there. Just so we know if it's windows or the hardware being weird.
