• Is facepunch getting too liberal?

Don't get me wrong, I tend to lean pretty left on the political spectrum. It's just lately I feel like FP has been starting to go to the extreme extreme left. We've got hippies in favor of legalizing shit like meth, social justice warriors getting offended over the littlest stuff, and people ripping on religion every chance they get. Theres people ranting about white male privledge every thread, and there are male feminists who flame anyone who doesnt consider almost everything sexist. There's people who hate capitalism with a burning passion, neo communists, and diehard socialists. A good chunk of the community acts like anything or anyone republican is satanic. And this is coming from an liberal atheist who was raised in a democratic family. I really don't have any conservative bias or anything.
Welcome to the internet.
I don't think Facepunch has a determined 'position'. This is a forum, and inside a forum, there are people with different opinions, points of view, etcetera.
Welcome to the internet.
Yeah, most sites are usually pretty liberal. It's just I've never seen another site besides tumblr thats to such a degree. Most places I would consider moderate leaning left.
Gotta agree with you here, it is getting a bit too wild in that sense. EDIT: Gotta be honest though, I'm not liberal, but I'm not conservative either. I just simply don't know where to place my political opinions as far as being in a certain group goes. Very Basically, I believe people in my country (The US) should have lots of freedoms and that our military should mainly be defensive.
I think there is a few individuals who take it too far, unfortunately they are VERY vocal about it.
Gotta agree with you here, it is getting a bit too wild in that sense.
Biggest issue IMO is a lot of the posters in SH, the sanius squad, I guess you would call them. They act accepting and tolerant, but then flame and berate anybody who seems differently. Say one thing they don't like and they'll gang up on you calling you sexist or racist for flimsy reasons. I think I just read one of them recently who said "Check your privilege," and, "White Cis," unironically to try and convince someone they were somehow being discriminatory.
Dont you basically get banned for being conservative?
The problem with most "fanbases" for lack of a better term is that the most vocal ones are the most extreme ones. The reason why FP seems so liberal is because the crazy-ass liberals will preach nonstop about it, kinda like bronies (hard to compare but you get my point) A few people will embarrass the rest of us.
Dont you basically get banned for being conservative?
Officially, no. [SUB]Unofficially, you bet your ass.[/SUB]
Yeah since 99% of Facepunch would crucify me for my political views I keep quiet about them
On alot of Facepunch debates you will find alot of social conservatives and Libertarian's. The gay thread's in the sensationalist board's prove that we have some social conservatives, or troll's pretending to be conservative to rile up these filthy liberals. The Mass debates board has alot of interesting discussion on the finer points of capitalism and it's pretty clear that we have alot of far right wingers among us. Also, Assosiating Democrat with Liberal? Wat.
Yes: "Megafan banned Judas for 3 Days in School Bans the Word 'Easter' with the reason “Not an appropriate news source” Megafan closed Judas's thread called School Bans the Word 'Easter' in Sensationalist Headlines with the reason “Fox Nation is not an appropriate news source”" :v:

If you call them out on it though, you're likely to get banned for "off topic" or "flaming." I feel like there's a bit of a bias among certain mods.
It would be okay if people would discuss everything more civilly.
I don't really think it is. Hell, I've been seeing more and more conservatives popping up in SH, though yeah, I've also been seeing more and more anarchists and socialist-liberal-libertarian-atheist-what-the-fuck-ever too. It's been more a matter of who's more vocal. Can't go anywhere in SH without running into silly-ass yawmen and Scorpious.
Fox Nation isn't an appropriate news source, though.
Fox Nation isn't an appropriate news source, though.
Fox news is my favorite comedic satire news station. I use it regularly for my news.

Posting their opinions in places like SH would be like asking to be harassed. It's a shame too, because while I usually disagree with republicans, I feel like they should still be a part of facepunch. There's a saying I like that kinda represents what I mean. Imagine you have a cup of burning hot water (Republicans) and a cup of Freezing cold water (Democrats). Both cups would be extremely unpleasant to drink if you didn't have the other one. However with both, you can cool the water down to become less extreme. Oh, btw, in the US, the terms Democrat and Liberal are used synonymously a lot.
Oh, btw, in the US, the terms Democrat and Liberal are used synonymously a lot.
Obama and his policies which he has signed into action have hardly been Liberal. Using the term's synonymously doesn't fit right. It's a debate so of course holding any opinion is going to lead to you getting attacked, in the recent gay marriage threads it's the social conservatives being the ones attacked, pitifully outnumbered.
To be honest there is extremists out there and they are usually more vocal about it. What we need more is middlemen to hear out both sides, and that is the people. We get to decide what is right and what is wrong, but human nature tends to pick or lean one side and those sides have there own groups, news sources, social hangouts ect. Liberals/democrats tend to use the internet more and go on forums ect. Republicans/conservatives tend to be your wife beaters and your christian soccer moms. But in my opinion liberals are leading the future and has the best interest for the people.

Let's just chalk up my stupidity to same difference.
I've never seen anyone in the middle of the political spectrum in FP. Or anyone that shares any of my views for that matter. So far i've only seen Libertarians and Liberals (progressive socialists, to be exact). And try citing Fox News as a source, or just even mention them in a positive light without anyone bombarding you with dumb ratings or telling you that Fox News is satire and you shouldn't watch them.
There's no such thing as being *too* liberal unless you're a believer in objective morality. There is such a thing as being petty and shortsighted, however.

I agree. I tend to have views that lean to the liberal side. In America I'm a socialist and globally I'm a moderate. I think it's just a bunch of kids raised on Dawkins yelling at each other and believing that they have the objective truth. I'll just hope they grow out of it. It's poor practice to exist in a society where you believe that your perspective is the only true one. Black and white morality and us vs. them mentality are really incredibly damaging and it's annoying to see it plastered all over Facepunch.

It's not like I go around ranting about how the free market is jesus or anything, because it isn't. For example, in an unregulated market, what if, through one company's success, all the other companies adopt measures that wind up fucking the consumers, but the consumers have no choice, with the exception of not consuming products from that particular sector? See: Mobile Carriers. A relatively unregulated market where it has become commonplace to take advantage of the consumer, because not doing so isn't as profitable. The consumers cannot "vote with their wallets," because all the candidates hold the same position on that matter.

Any exercise of one's personal liberties is acceptable so long as the action does not a) limit the liberties of another, b) harm or oppress another person against their will or c) exploit another person.
Well, I'm a social liberal and fiscal centrist, what does that make me? :(
I have no idea. But as I was saying, it's pretty rare to see any centrists here in FP if there are any at all.
How is Facepunch getting too Liberal? Are we claiming that there are too many Communists and Anarchists on Facepunch, or are the Libertarians here threatened by the amount of non Libertarians on the website?
I have no idea. But as I was saying, it's pretty rare to see any centrists here in FP if there are any at all.
When I took that political test couple of months ago it showed me right in the middle and little to the left. But I have my doubts about that test...
