• Setting memory stick to use 800MHz in BIOS

Here's the story. I used to have a 2GB stick in my computer. I think it was 600MHz or something, I dunno much about computer hardware. Anyway, I wanted to upgrade to 4GB, so I got a new stick from Newegg. This G-SKILL 800MHz stick. Since I barley know anything about hardware I went to the guy that built my computer. He had to downgrade this new stick to be compatible with my old one, but from what my friend told me, it isn't making my games run smoothly, and told me to get another stick like the one I bought. Well I did, the guy replaced it with the old stick but didn't do anything else. My friend said I need to get into BIOS and set the original stick back to 800MHz or something. I got my motherboard instruction book infront of me, trying to read how to do it, but I can't understand it and don't wanna screw anything up. If this helps, here's the two pictures I took of CPU-Z showing my old memory stick, when I asked in here of finding a compatible stick to go up to 4GB; And my specs; OS: Windows XP Home (SP3) CPU: AMD Phenom 9550 @ 2.20GHz, Quad-Core PSU: Antec GreenWatts 650W Motherboard: ASUS M3A78-CM Memory: 4GB DDR-2 Video: ASUS nVidia Geforce GTS 250 512MB Audio: Onboard VIA HD Audio Monitors; Primary: Arnos Instruments H-W19 19" Wide Screen Secondary: Hitachi/HINT X93W D-Sub 19" Wide Screen TL:DR: Want to upgrade to 4GB, got new stick, it was downgraded to be compatible with old stick but didn't work right, got another stick to replace original, but settings weren't changed in BIOS. If you guys have any questions to help me get this set, I'll do my best to answer them.
So now when you check CPU-Z both of the sticks are @ 300mhz?
Both are at 400 MHz. I dunno. All I know is my friend claims he had to underclock the new one to something to be compatible with the old one, and didn't set it back. And now I have no idea how to set it back. Let me get some pictures of what CPU-Z looks like now.
Take a pic of the new sticks on cpu-z and post them. It sounds like they are already @ 800mhz (DDR2 so it will look like 400mhz in CPU-Z)
Here. Just got done doing that; The same slot info is the same in the 2nd slot.
They look fine to me both of them are @ 800mhz.
They look fine to me both of them are @ 800mhz.
Agreed DDR=Double/dual (whatever) Date rate, meaning that for evry pass it get's to call's So you can multiply your MHZ by 2. 400mhz x2 = 800mhz.
Yeh i had this problem when i thought my 1066 sticks were running at 533.3 :P
Mine at 1066. You're fine, OP.
Double Data Rate. Double. 400 = 800 PC2-6400(400 Mhz) is 800Mhz DDR2.
I'm going to be an accuracy nazi and point out that it's actually 800 MT/s (T = transfers) and not 800 MHz.
