Hello,
I got a 6950 today to replace a 285 + 8400GS combination, but it doesn't seem to be able to run 3 24" screens at the same time. I can get it to run two from combinations of DVI / DVI, DP / DVI, DP / HDMI and HDMI / DVI, but I can't get 3 to run together. I have got the AMD Catalyst 10.12 Preview installed with the 10.12 drivers. I have a 750W PSU, so that should be able to cope with it fine.
Any ideas on what I need to do?
Thanks.
try dvi/dvi/dp, or dvi/hdmi/dp
as far as I know you can't do dvi/dvi/hdmi, if that's what you've been doing.
You need one of them to be displayport.
I have DVI / DVI / DP running at the moment, I get this when I try to extend to the third:

1 video card can only support 2 monitors, insert one of your old video cards for the 3rd monitor.

Sorry, but no; the 6950 supports 4 displays running off 1 card.
Are you using some sort of splitter? Because you'll only get the same video output on one as you do the other
But thats pretty obvious
ATI cards can only do 3 monitors if one of the inputs is Display Port.
DVI / DVI / DP works
DVI / DVI / HDMI will not work
One of the DVI ports shares power with the HDMI port.
For 4 screens it would be
DVI / DVI / DP / DP
But they only have 1 DP output... ?
edit: nvm, saw the apparently the 6950 has 2 of them.

Well that's odd, what kind of DP adapter are you using if any?

It has 2 Mini-DP ports and then comes with 2 mini-DP to DP connectors.

No, 3 separate outputs, DVI / DVI / MDP.

DVI / DVI / DP works
That's what I'm doing and it doesn't work.

MDP to DVI, I guess it's a passive one.
It has 2 Mini-DP ports and then comes with 2 mini-DP to DP connectors.
Yes on the first, no it doesn't come with connectors.
Weird, most brands bring mini-DP to DP connectors. A passive DP to DVI should work for monitors between 1920x1200 resolution and lower. Anything higher needs active.

Yeah, that's why I'm finding this strange, my monitors are 1920x1200. The product page on Overclockers (Google cache as the actual one is 'unavailable') says "Supports DVI resolution of 1080p", so it may be that they do have to be 1080 vertically or less to work.
Edit: Also, don't forget I can actually do MDP / DVI just fine, so the adapter can handle it. I just can't add a third screen and extend to it.
I am sorry, But what is DP? I know what is DVI and VGA and HDMI, but DP?

DisplayPort, with Mini-DisplayPort being the ports available on newer graphics cards.
doesn't it need a active converter if already using two displays? since it will try to use a RAMDAC of the card if you use a passive one, and they're both already in use. try a dp/dvi setup and tell me if it works. if it works I'm pretty sure you'll need to invest in a active converter.
As I said in the OP, DP / DVI works fine. Any combination of any two ports works fine. I just can't use 3 at the same time and have them all display (they all appear in CCC).
eyefinity requires a splitter as far as I'm aware using mini display ports.
eyefinity requires a splitter as far as I'm aware using mini display ports.
What do you mean by a splitter? An adapter which uses USB power as well?
On a related note, XFX has this adapter kit available which includes an active MDP to DVI, I think it might be worth a try - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/245733
Also google, first result.
Eyefinity requires that 1 of the displays use the Display Port. You can have a combinations of (2) DVI or (1) DVI and (1) HDMI display, but the 3rd MUST use the display port. The only work around to this is buying a display port to DVI active converter. These run about $100+ from what I hear. I also don't know if this causes any lag in monitor response either.
Once you have 3 displays working, you just use the ATI drivers and turn on Eyefinity, which is basically just a single desktop spread across 3 displays. Eyefinity is just a marketing name.
Yes, I understand what port combinations I can use and as I've said and shown in screenshots, 3 displays appear in CCC using DVI / DVI / DP but I can't output to all three by extending or by eyefinity. As far as I'm aware you have to make a group for the displays in order to use eyefinity, but CCC is only given me the option of 2x1 or 1x2, even though it knows there are 3 displays connected.
As far as I know, you need an active converter.
(Learned from one of Swifty's videos.)

Okay, so would the one here do it? (Larger image)
oh you fucking dolts, he's got the setup correctly but it's not working for some reason.
Not true, ATI made a list of working passive DP adapters that work at 1920x1200 resolutions.
http://support.amd.com/us/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity-dongles.aspx
You only need active for 2560x1600 resolutions.
Just as an update and somewhat of a conclusion. I bought the XFX Mini Display Port Kit on Boxing Day, it arrived today, plugged in the Active adapter and it works. Thanks for your help. :)
