EDIT: Officially released now. DOWNLOAD: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2010/02/10/beta-rc2 From what I've tested, some new features include: -Better Windows 7 support (each tab has its own preview window in the task bar; tabs are displayed at the top of the windows with Aero support, like Chrome) -All menu items have been moved to a single O button in the top left by default (can be disabled) -Faster -Lots of skin tweaks - looks very sleek overall -Private Tab feature - right click on the tab bar or click on the O button to get the option to open a Private Tab, which basically keeps that tab from leaving any traces on your computer -Lots of little usability enhancements, such as the password manager dropping down in a bar instead of in a pop up window Screenshots: Article from Download Squad:
While version 10.5 has not been released yet by Opera officially, there's a pre-alpha build that has been turned loose by someone. It seems legit enough: help -> about reports that the browser is version 10.5 internal, build 20192. It's important to remember that 1) this is a pre-alpha and 2) this could well be a build Opera never intended to see the light of day. In benchmarks like V8 and Peacekeeper, 10.5 performed about as well as the recently-released 10.2 alpha. Neither of those scored as well as Opera 10.1, however, which seems to indicate that Carakan hasn't been bolted on as of yet. Regardless of the benchmarks, general browsing with 10.5 feels reasonably fast. In non-scientific speed testing (read: stopwatch page load timing) it's competitive with Firefox and Chrome. Javascript-heavy pages are another story, but again that should change once Carakan arrives. Opera 10.5 takes full advantage of Windows 7's Superbar. By default, the jump list displays your Speed Dial pages. You can pin pages as well, though right now it only works with Speed Dial items -- so pinning isn't all that useful just yet. Per-tab thumbnails, on the other hand, work beautifully. I have yet to experience the bothersome spinning wheel which continues to plague Firefox builds with this feature. Hover over a thumbnail, and Opera flips between your open tabs and windows using Aero Peek. About the only shell feature missing is the Superbar's progress indicator for downloads, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see that integrated before 10.5 hits beta. One other big addition is per-tab private browsing. It's pretty similar to what we've seen with other browsers: browsing and download history are not saved. Everything which happened in the tab is forgotten about as soon as you close it. One big plus is that you don't need to open an additional window, making Opera's implementation just a little bit more inconspicuous. This build does seem to be missing the one thing I really wanted to test in version 10.5: the new Javascript engine. As I mentioned before, though, this isn't an official release - so there's still a chance the real deal from Opera will include Carakan when it debuts next week.
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2009/12/19/opera-10-5-pre-alpha-leaks-windows-7-integration-per-tab-private-browsing/ Any thoughts? I never would have expected so many changes in this version; Opera have really surprised me with this. I'm looking forward to seeing this get improved upon. Hopefully the build Opera release on the 22nd is a newer build.
Beyond the tab placement, this style is still reminding me of Chrome, except with softer gradients and different corners
looks pretty and sturdy.
Looks awesome. If it has some firefox-esque addons, I might try it out. Edit: You're dumb.
Nice, I'll wait for the official release though. Also, YES, finally a new javascript engine. Next they should improve flash as well, though it was a huge jump from 9.6 to 10. I still can't use deviantART properly, lags like hell.
Downloading. Looks pretty damn nice. I just hope the CSS management is better.
Why get an unofficial release when you can get the 10.2 version from the website? http://www.opera.com/browser/next/
There does seem to be some improvement on the CSS, as Garry's blog now has that lovely glowing effect. Loving it. :h:
There does seem to be some improvement on the CSS, as Garry's blog now has that lovely glowing effect. Loving it. :h:
Wait how does that have to do with Opera...
Wait how does that have to do with Opera...
It didn't appear in 10.10 because Opera regrettably did (and still does) have some CSS problems. CSS files are 'cascading sytlesheets' which tell web browsers how to format page layout.
Why get an unofficial release when you can get the 10.2 version from the website? http://www.opera.com/browser/next/
Because this isn't 10.2. This is a test build for a future version - 10.5. This pre-alpha will be officially released on the 22nd. [editline]08:15PM[/editline] Wow, I only just realized just how fast this starts up. It seems to load about as fast as Chrome. Also, RAM usage appears to have lowered significantly, but I do not think I've used it enough to comment on it. [editline]08:27PM[/editline] Noticed another little feature: searches in the search bar are saved, and can be easily deleted by clicking the X next to them.
Looks great. Didn't Mozilla want to implement a similar skin for Firefox
Looks great. Didn't Mozilla want to implement a similar skin for Firefox
Yeah. Seems like all the browsers are working towards better Aero support.
Hot damn, when do we see an official release date on this? I've been using Opera for more than a year now, and never regretted it, except for when Flash screws up...
Hot damn, when do we see an official release date on this? I've never experienced any problems with Flash. What's screwing up?
Yay opera has porn mode now.
Yay opera has porn mode now.
Yeah, and I actually prefer Opera's implementation to that of other browsers. I don't like having to open another window; I like how this allows you to have private tabs in the same window as normal tabs.
All I want is better support for greasemonkey. It's the only reason I switched back to Firefox anyway.
All I want is better support for greasemonkey. It's the only reason I switched back to Firefox anyway.
I think you mean better support for external javascript files. Which is basically just up to the programmer of the js files to fix.
Just discovered that you can revert to the old menu style, can't imagine why anyone would want to though.
The colours of the non active tab looks terrible. Which is a shame because up until that I was considering giving Opera another go when I saw the first pic.
The colours of the non active tab looks terrible. Which is a shame because up until that I was considering giving Opera another go when I saw the first pic.
I disagree; I think they look nice. Keep in mind that you can change the color scheme in the appearance settings. [editline]11:55PM[/editline] Also, themes.
Anyone care to reupload, all the links are down.
Anyone care to reupload, all the links are down.
Hm? Works for me. Added another link anyway
nvm works with chrome.
Does anyone know if the OS X version is being released at the same time next week as the Windows version?
Does anyone know if the OS X version is being released at the same time next week as the Windows version?
Possibly. They release their betas at the same time for all platforms, so I don't think this will be different. But then again, this could only be a release to show off the new W7 features, etc. We'll have to wait and see.
The colours of the non active tab looks terrible. Which is a shame because up until that I was considering giving Opera another go when I saw the first pic.
the default theme looks like crap anyway
It didn't appear in 10.10 because Opera regrettably did (and still does) have some CSS problems. CSS files are 'cascading sytlesheets' which tell web browsers how to format page layout.
It does for me, if you mean that "shadow". It's not W3 standards though, but that's why I love Opera, because it even supports stuff which shouldn't be, not like IE. That did even work back in 9.6. No idea what you mean otherwise... Also, who needs skins? I use the classical skin eitherway, hopefully they still have that option to choose that. Edit: Forget what I said about that CSS part, just saw that blog post from garry.
