• Extremely strange blank/phantom taskbar icons

[t]http://puu.sh/3xTEw.png[/t] They disappear if I hover over them usually, except for one that stayed. They also multiply rather quickly, almost like freaking rabbits. Notice that my internet settings icon is also blank/missing, and doesn't disappear. Also, they're pretty much zombie like. If I click on them in any manner they don't do anything. Please help as this is getting annoying, thanks in advance [editline]8th July 2013[/editline] Side note: I only booted this computer up for the first time in a year after not using it, after cleaning out the dust. Are the dust bunnies taking revenge? [editline]8th July 2013[/editline] Note 2: Aside from knowing that one of the zombieicons is the network status thing, I find that the other is the Realtek Audio HD manager.. or something. Which a process isn't even open for.
When there's an icon in the taskbar and it disappears when you hover over it, it means the process that created the taskbar icon is closed but wasn't closed correctly (happens when you terminate a process through task manager). If they multiply quickly it's possible that it's a virus or a glitched program. If you right click the up arrow that shows hidden icons and go on properties, you can enable system icons such as the internet one
That's probably what it was, I thought of the virus thing and scanned my computer, it didn't find anything. However, after all my games finished converting to steampipe they stopped showing up. So that problem is "solved", seems to be lag induced. As for the network icon... [img]http://puu.sh/3ycvz.png[/img] It's already set to that. But it still doesn't work, and as you can see, the usual icon that should be next to it is not. [editline]8th July 2013[/editline] Wait, I just realized something about the icon spam. While they were happening my HDD was being heavily used, right? Well, while I was updating my games, I checked task manager because something was also eating my RAM. I found that "AMD RAIDXpert" (why do I even have this, I am not running RAID) was memory leaking like mad. So I ended that process because I remember doing that before because it was memory leaking. It may have stopped happening after I ended that process, but I'm not sure. [editline]8th July 2013[/editline] Two more zombie icons just popped up. "Windows Explorer" and a stuck "Windows Device Installation" icon. (not blank, but its stuck.)
