Ok well my dad comes home this weekened and I haven't decided what I wanted for my birthday so I'm thinking if I do go with a computer which he suggest instead of upgrading mine, and if that is the case if I do get a new computer, what would be a pretty good computer for $1250? I never built a pc before by the way. I just need the tower as I have everything else. I don't plan on maxing the resolution as I usually go with 1280x1024... don't ask why haha, but I would like to run on fairly high settings if not maxed with good cooling as I live in Arizona -.-... Thanks I forgot to mention I am going for Intel and Nvidia.

Please, leave fanboyism at the door
Despite what you said, any motherboard paired with AMD Phenom II X4 955 and ATI Radeon HD 5770 is a good combo.

:what: I wont even...

Why?...
AMD or ATI are just as good..
don't ask why
You've spiked my curiousity, please tell us why.
Basically OP, don't be a fanboy. Intel, AMD, ATi, nVidia
It doesn't matter as long as your computer works as you want it too.
To give you a loose idea of the specs your looking at, check this

I'm just used to using Nvidia/intel. Also my brother said ATI is a pain in the ass to deal with in his experience but these were cards from 2-3 years ago. Also if ATI/AMD is just as good why does it matter which I chose ^^. In the end though whatever the best bang for the buck you can build me I guess go ahead. I just want something thats going to last me and not have me upgrade soon (which is hard to say because they keep updating -.-).

No, don't even use that.

Ahem, My ATI Card is a brilliant card, lasted me november '08, Lasted longer than my Nvidia card, Also my last processor, an old AMD lasted me at least 6 years, So don't go into fanboyism and accept an open mind.

Seems to be a very good build. I just would switch the motherboard for an ASUS P7P55D, but why not?
[editline]01:17PM[/editline]
I mean the i7 860, HD 5870, CoolerMaster HAF 922, Corsair 650W, etc...
Why an i7 in a gaming build? You could use that money on something else...
Yeah i5 750 and Phenom X4 955/965 are okay though, but i7 860 (and i7 870 since it is on the same price now) is the high-end processor you can have without going to LGA 1366 socket
I don't plan on maxing the resolution as I usually go with 1280x1024...
Oops, I didn't see this
[editline]01:22PM[/editline]
IS that your maximal resolution for your monitor?
$1280
for a birthday
i5
600w Corsair
5870
4gb ddr3
Spinpoint f3 1TB
I would think the 5870 would be pointless considering it's going to be outdated soon and I was thinking maybe something that would be a bang for a buck. I was thinking the GTX 460 since it's not that expensive and is pretty good.
Guys lets not start a shitstorm over ATi/AMD and nVidia/Intel, it's a personal preference more or less, some processors/video cards do better at certain games.

No matter what you do or how much you spend. 6-12 months later your technology will be outdated, so don't even worry about that stuff.
Also, what kinda monitor do you have? Because if you're going to game at that low resolution you don't even need a high-end GPU.
And yeah, ghostofme and me would know what monitor do you have (Screen Resolution Max.)

Because one of the brands have the best performance/price in a certain range.

There's barely any performance difference between i5 750 and i7 860, it simply is not worth it.
i5-760
Slightly OC'd 750 for only $15 more.
If it's just an overclocked one, why not overclock an i5-750 to that speed instead?
If it's just an overclocked one, why not overclock an i5-750 to that speed instead?
If it's possible on stock heatsink.
I'm quite sure a 140MHz overclock is possible on stock heatsink.
You can OC it a good bit on stock with no problems. And the cooler is the same on the 760, so what would be the difference? Intel magic?
If it's possible on stock heatsink.
You can get at least a 300MHz overclock without even touching voltages on the 750?

No, I think OP is somewhat right: It would be harder to change a graphic card later because it has cost you a lot in the past.

The 6*** is coming in a few months, his statement isn't that far off.
Right now I'm using a dell 22" widescreen moniter.

4000 line is still strong though. So, the 5000 line should still be good.

I used the word loose just for that reason.
It's just a general idea, personally I'd be changing things in that build too.

It doesn't really matter what your used to using, they all work the same kinda way.
Because maybe an ATI/AMD product would be better suited "bang for your buck" wise.
