does the 5870's vertical measurement matter? It seems like if the 11 inch card were to be installed, the fan would hit some capacitors on my mobo that are about 10 inches away from the install slot.
According to the revised ATX form factor, their should be a clear space above the motherboard behind the PCI/PCIe slots. Verticle height is rarely an issue.
If you want to be sure, grab a piece of cardboard, cut it to size, and see if there are any obstacles in the way by holding it just above the slot.
