Whats your method of coming up for ideas for coding or other projects?
Post your method below!
My method is simply; when something comes to my head - I write it down and read it later on and try and create something from it.
I jerk off until it cums to me
I'll make a thing then think about what it could be used for until I can boil it down to a solid idea, then build from there.
It's how my current project started.
While I'm working on it, whatever music I'm listening to influences it.
I look at older projects, go to sleep and then pull out my laptop to write down what I've just thought up right before falling asleep.
drugs
Remixing what already exists.
I usually come up with my better ideas when I'm lying in bed trying to sleep. My mind wanders through so much random crap and if anything stands out, I write it out on a notepad.
Of course, it's not good for trying to sleep.
One thing I do which yields very good results for me is reading books.
The mental image, of the location, the scene, the characters, it's almost entirely unique to each reader.
From reading books what this does for me is its building a visual library in my head that I'll use for my artwork, from this unlikely inspiration and direction can come about.
It can get really interesting.
i look at art and get ideas from that
i never do anything with them though
Usually I think about all the stuff I think is cool and try to imagine what it would be like if this stuff was combined into one thing. Unfortunately I'm neither creative nor talented enough to do anything with the things I come up with.
When I come up with ideas for characters and stuff, I think "What haven't I done yet?" And then I just cycle through all the junk I haven't done yet and mash seemingly unrelated concepts together.
Then I give em personalities and talents based on their designs. Pun names come naturally.

This was the result of "Boss ghost character / Fire and Ice opposites", for example.
Listening to videogame music helps.
Showering.
Lateral thinking
I come up with most of my ideas when doing dreary things, like work. My mind tends to wander very easily, maybe too easily. The right neuron fires, and everything just floods in.
Then I'm an hour behind on my work because I'm daydreaming of some mysterious fantasy world. Oops. :pudge:
The best way to think of ideas is to not force them. I also find that the best time ideas come is when you aren't really doing anything (which is why we get them in the shower) and at night when your drowsy because your mind seems to just let itself run free. A good idea is to keep a notebook by your bedside in case you have an idea so you can quickly scrawl it down because you will likely not remember it if you don't. Another great way to get ideas is to expose yourself to a range of different things (situations, music, books, films, people, etc.). Just keep in mind that you might not instantly get tonnes of ideas from this but it will increase your well to draw upon in the future.
Of course this advise may not work for all, but its what seems to work the most for me.
Well it depends. If I don't have any ideas at all I ask a bunch of different people and get the best input or average their ideas.
If it's some huge problem I try to visualize every step necessary to solve the issue.
I enter the state when i feel im being tranced.
At this moment,i got some idea thats good, impossible to do,and dangerously stupid.
Downside:If i use this in public,i believe many people will avoid me since i looks like very ominous, combined with blank looks in my eyes

Is this like the mind palace in Sherlock?

Different people,different version
I combine existing ideas.
compare and contrast ideas. Remove the differences and keep the similarities.
One way to do this is through paradigm shifting.
Lets say I become an atheist. Not the moderate luke warm atheist but a full tard fedora atheist for one year. Then go full tard theist the next. Rins repeat until both views to me seem one and the same.
Another way of comparing and contrasting is have contacts with people of different world views.
Another way to do is find things that are not related in any way, then form connections.
One way is go impossible. Find something that is considered impossible to solve and go with whatever idea you come up with. It helps if the answer is silly. Humor sparks genius ideas.
my mind tends to constantly switch subjects and I write down ideas I think are good when trying to brainstorm
I was on the toilet once when I noticed a bit of a logic flaw in one of my project ideas

I make Garry's Mod addons. I just think of cool things I like and what I'd like to be able to do in the game.
Sometimes,i often takes different point of view.
Then i compare mine with other people PoV.
Laying on the floor and just thinking
Time, thought, and travel.
Can't tell you how many times I've been like "OH SHIT THAT'S PERFECT" just because I left my house for a few hours and thought about it for a little bit.
Plenty ideas I had in my head.
However when I want to put these ideas on paper......yep, no....
Sometimes I just kinda stare at something until I get an idea. Playing video games helps too.
On some occasions, I'd have a glass of vodka or whatever beside me when I'm trying to do some creative writing. :v:
Listen to music of various genres and change my scenery and some ideas just click into my head
This. So much. When I create characters/scenes/moments for something I usually listen to very diverse tracks and find the fitting ones that help crafting the mood of said things. I really feel more creative.
One of my friends doesn't believe me whenever I tell him this. He listens to only 3 artists since he was born and is actually aiming to become a designer... even though I'm a designer myself and speaking from experience.

Do it. Ever since I started forcing myself to write down whatever pops in my head I'm kinda thankful to myself.
i dont
im not a creative person
