Hello fellow facepunchers I am in need of some advice. She decided to buy a laptop a year ago and has saved up 500$ and is in the market for one. She has left it up to me to pick it so and i'm not the greatest source of info for them. Her basic needs for it are going to be Under $500 and that includes shipping Buying from the USA Going to be used mainly for internet browsing and LIGHT internet gaming and some mystery solving shit(such as nancy drew :p) She might be doing some Microsoft Office work on it I'm not sure if she should get a netbook or a full fledged laptop. Constructive opinions please and if this is in wrong area please move it Thanks

2 GB is enough for Vista. If it runs too slow, you could always buy more (or salvage it from another broken laptop.
2 GB should be fine once you update windows.
you get windows 7 in like a month or so
you get windows 7 in like a month or so
True, was thinking of either waiting for win 7 or putting XP on it.
Make sure it's not heavy I hate dragging my brick around
Make sure it's not heavy I hate dragging my brick around
She will only be using it at home to weight won't be a huge problem
She might want to use it out of the house in a few years. Make sure it is not heavy. Get her one of those little laptops, they are neat and pretty.
I would suggest a netbook, (depending on how big a screen she is wanting). Also i would go with either XP or Windows 7 so she doesn't get confused when it blue screens every hour or so.
Wait until Windows 7 comes out and then see whats available.

While Windows 7 should be better, that doesn't mean Vista sucks.
