Opera has released the first beta version of it's next browser Opera 10! So what's new?
A new sleek-looking skin.
Tabs can now be dragged down and give you previews instead of just text.
Claimed to be 40% faster than Opera 9.6* on heavy web-pages.
"Opera Turbo" - Compresses images to reduce loading speeds on slow connections. Great for mobile Internet and people with limits on the bandwidth (Can of course be turned off)!
Speed dial can now have up to 25 thumbnails, and down to 4 thumbnails!
You can also assign a background image for speed dial.
And more!
So where's the pictures? [img_thumb]http://imgkk.com/i/UECVmrgg.png[/img_thumb] New tabs: Old tabs: Google with Turbo: Google without Turbo: I don't know why the with turbo was saved as a png, but on google it was compressed 3.5 times! [editline]10:40AM[/editline] Whoops forgot the download: http://www.opera.com/browser/next/ [editline]11:13AM[/editline] Peacekeeper: (No idea why Peacekeeper called it 9.80 btw.) Acid 3: (Haha lol, 9.64 got 1337)
Awesome, I've been using the alpha and I've loved it so far. Downloading this now.
Downloading Safari 4 beta now to see how it does in peacekeeper. [editline]11:29AM[/editline] I'm amazed at how apple made the Safari 4 installation require two UAC prompts. [editline]11:36AM[/editline] Seems Safari is a bit out of grasp.
Tried this with Peacekeeper too: Opera still seems to be a bit behind Safari and Chrome...
Try GChrome 3.
Dragory did Chrome 2.
Dragory did Chrome 2.
Cool. I said 3 though :P
Cool. I said 3 though :P
I think it's unnecessary now that 2 is tested. I belive #3 will outperform it just as well. [editline]01:17PM[/editline] Oh well I tested it: [editline]01:19PM[/editline] Oh god this thread looks horrible with Turbo on.
It speeds up Facepunch a lot.
It speeds up Facepunch a lot.
Das gut! I didn't notice much difference from before, most likely because I was on the Opera 10 alpha.
I'm gonna try it later on :) I hope some of the older skins will still work.. But I dont think so :(
Older skins do work ;)
YAY, Thanks for confirming that :)
Oh well I tested it: <pic>
Weird, for me Chrome 3 scored lower than Chrome 2. :raise:
Weird, for me Chrome 3 scored lower than Chrome 2. :raise:
Didn't test Chrome 2. It's fast anyways.
Gonna add this to my Peacekepper test:

so speed dial is like top sites?
so speed dial is like top sites?
Yea, but you can select what to put in each of them. And Opera has had it from way before Safari, trust me, so don't go saying Opera is stealing ideas here. ;)
Yea, but you can select what to put in each of them. And Opera has had it from way before Safari, trust me, so don't go saying Opera is stealing ideas here. ;)
I never said anything about stealing ;)
I never said anything about stealing ;)
Just wanted to make sure ;)
Just wanted to make sure ;)
Well that's settled then.
Yea. You can add web pages and update all of them simultaneously, so if you got loads of news sites, you can see if there's new stuff on all the sites at the same time.
I just realised that Peacekeeper is using a new form for scoring. I'll have to retest it all.

What the hell!?
What the hell!?
Yeah that's what my first words were, too. For my system, Safari has always been an all around P.O.S. Mozilla Firefox scored a 1233, Opera 1384, Google Chrome 3033, Safari 3369. Mozilla has always been faster for me. My system specs are Intel Q9300, Nvidia GeForce 9800GT, and 6GB DDR2 RAM. Yeah, what the hell...? Im still sticking with Mozilla. I might use safari once in a while. I get better download speeds in firefox (.4 more than in safari). Opera is shit, even more than safari.

Loving it! :D
AFAIK Safari 4 was written specifically to ace browser tests and the like.
