I find the Unity engine quite lovely to work with. It has it's strange quirks, but aside that, it's scripting API is sleek and smooth from what I can tell in my experience.

The only thing Unity fails at is optimization regarding multiple GameObjects, if you want to do something like a crowd simulation you're pretty much screwed. Everything else is fine by me.
