Ok, my 8800GT now is 81C at idle and 107C on load. It wasn't always like this, when I got it the idle temperature was like 55C and it would load at about 75C. Over time I guess that dust has built up.
I opened the computer case earlier to have a look, but...
a. I started to try and remove it and I swear the power cable is stuck in with cement or something (obviously not since I remember putting it there though) - how the hell am I supposed to get it out without ripping the power socket off the card??
b. Looking at the visible side of the card, there doesn't seem to be any way to remove the shroud, no screws on the bottom or the visible side. How exactly am I supposed to clean the card if I can't remove the shroud?
I'm not experiencing any artifacts or crashing, I just want to sort this out before that starts happening.
Get a can of air and aim it down the fan. Other then that get a screw driver.
I have a screwdriver, there are no screws holding on the shroud, it's just attached somehow, I guess to the heatsink.
There's probably plastic compression screws on the bottom. Or you have to remove the heatsink to remove the shroud. Squish them they're white or post a picture. As for the cable just heave-ho it'll come out you won't pull the plug off.
Ooooh there are white things on the bottom, like two clips you push together and it lets it go through the hole. I'll try that later on. Thanks.
