Holy crap. I've been waiting for Linux, like many others, to get some real TLC and attention for a while now. And with a company like Valve with bags of money to throw everywhere, It's likely to do some good.
If Linux gets some more of the software that people can't leave Mac/Windows because of (e.g Adobe CS for example) then maybe people will finally be able to jump over from Windows.
I heard that valve are working with AMD, what's going on.
I'd rather have AMD working with them in light of their recent announcements.

I'd rather it had the most support possible so we have options and not a monopoly.

But the article is about Nvidia exclusively, not both. Obviously that would be a better option but if I had to choose I'd go with AMD.

I never said it didn't, I just said I'd prefer if it had as much support as possible and I'm gonna hold back on choosing who I'd rather go with until I see benchmarks because at the moment it's all talk.

Plus if Mantle supports Linux and bypasses OpenGL as well as DX then in theory it'd work well on SteamOS anyway. It's more likely that there wont be any Mantle games on Steam for a while as the only one announced is BF4 and I can't see EA making a Linux port, especially when Linux support is being pushed by a competitor.
Doesn't AMD already have the best drivers for Linux?

The best free driver is the radeon driver, but in terms of proprietary ones the nVidia driver is a bit faster and more stable.
This will be interesting since Mantle was just announced.
