• Guy Fawkes Only An Icon In UK?
    23 replies, posted
I am writing about him in my media class about how he is an icon and how his image has shifted around and such. I typed it up on this college thing called Blackboard, it's pretty much like a message board but for students and professors and it's where I have to post up my homework. So after I've written about him and the conspiracy to blow up parliament and that he is refered to in movies like V for Vendetta and also in books, etc., I get replies saying things like(These are the replys word for word): "Guy Fawkes is a good example if only an icon to the Brits" (had write about someone who is well known around the world) Then another one saying: "I agree i think Guy Fawkes is only a icon in Brittian and is not known world wide" Seriously wtf? I'm sure people around the world know about this. Would help if any of you guys can add to this. I'm sure he's Iconic in more countries than in the UK.
Yeah, he really is an icon for the English. Americans only really recognize him for the movie, and Anonymous (Which is a stretch).
he's not an icon. he's a vague historical figure.
Internet in general.
It's a shame that he's only an icon in the UK. Then again, the majority of Americans are too fucking stupid to truly understand what he stands for. We did elect Obama, after all
Well I guess it's time for a change of topic, any ideas?
he's not an icon. he's a vague historical figure.
Its not very vague, historical books detail exactly what happened to him during the planning, execution, fuck up and torture. We even have accounts of what happened to his 'buddies'.

Looks like somebody needs a visit to 4chan.
I'm trying to get people to celebrate the 5th of November in the name of Guy Fawkes, here in Sweden.
Or maybe it's because he wasn't really that big of a figure in history... The English barely even recognize him.
Well that's not completely true, there is a whole day dedicated to him Dedicated to burning him, but still

I think it's a shame that, not only is he pretty much unknown worldwide, but the very purpose of him blowing up the Houses of Parliament. He wasn't fighting for democracy or freedom, he was a catholic extremist trying to get rid of the protestant monarchy.
Yeah, he should be a bigger figure
Lots of people have tried to kill important people because of religion why is he different (im british btw)
This mask?
Lots of people have tried to kill important people because of religion why is he different (im british btw)
Because he was going to blow up one of the most well known symbols of Britain but was stopped just in time.

Guy Fawkes being... ignored? TOMFOOLERY!! :monocle:
Because he was going to blow up one of the most well known symbols of Britain but was stopped just in time.
So we should give Bin Laden his own day...he most likely played a big part in destroying the twin towers...and it was also for religion :v:
