How would I delete unknown files on my HDD?
at present windirstat states that <unknown space> takes up 21% of my laptop's primary partition.
Help?

Is it not "System Volume Information", but without the correct label ?
would that take up so much space, and it's only been like this for a month or two
System Volume Information contains your restore points, so yes it could very well be that size or even larger.
well the laptop has pretty much no restore points...
