I finally got my old Apple TV 1g hacked and I installed Ubuntu 8.04 Minimal my question is:
Will a
-Pentium-M 1.0Ghz
-256MB DDR333
-Nvidia GeForce GO 7300 64MB VRAM
-30GB Free HDD space
Run a 5-Slot LAN server?
Not the small black Apple TV the bigger white one.
For those who don't know what a "Minimal Ubuntu" is, the Ubuntu OS stripped of BIG files which you can download once it is installed. Build for OLD computers (no DVD drive or no USB boot)
****I can not upgrade the Ubuntu Install or add RAM (RAM is soldered to the MotherBoard) ****
Depends on what you want to do on the server.
Walk around on flatgrass and not spawn anything, sure.
Spacebuild? No.
Anything of any sensible size? Not really.
Just for building with my brother and sister. It needs to be able to run Wire and a bunch of stools. Hopeful not crash when a prop becomes "stuck". Had this problem on my last server but that was a old pc.
Edit: I think the CPU is underclocked to 1.0Ghz to keep the heat down, or the system bus.
Well give it a go, no way to really know before that.
(There is but you won't like the answer)
I am trying it right now, will tell the outcome when i'm done. 4 hours of download here I come.....
It did not work. Crashed on start up.
A PC with a Core 2 Duo or an i5 is better if you want a server, the GPU won't matter much but integrated is fine. I run my server on windows server 2003. But XP will do just as good.
Linux may be a better choice

I'm pretty sure I had some difficulty with the Linux SRCDS crashing.

Replace the original file in /orangebox/bin/
i think the problem may be that he's trying to run a gmod server on a 1ghz laptop processor from 2003
you're better off hosting on your own computer dude
I have a web server running on a Pentium 4 2.80 and 1gb ram. I just wanted to see if it worked.

@Doritos_Man Ubuntu is a build of Linux

Why didn't you just try before you asked?

This plus the libsteam fix worked. It works now and quite well.
