• Losing Connection on almost EVERY Multiplayer game.

The title says it all. It has started happening a few months ago; I join a multiplayer game, play for some time, and then lose connection. It's really annoying, because I can't really join alot of matches & rounds. My internet connection is fine, 10mb/s download and ~1.8mb/s upload, the strange thing is well. I would be playing some Cops 'n Robbers on SA:MP, or Prison Break on CS 1.6, or some Conquest on BF 1942 and lose connection and rage, quitting the game, and open up Internet Explorer and find out every single website is working fine. Games that've had this problem; CS 1.6 SA:MP BF 1942 BF2 Wolfenstein:ET MTA:SA King Arthur's Gold Ace of Spades Diablo 2 I would really appreciate if facepunch could fix it, infinite hearts.
Post a speedtest, tell us your specs, OS, your ISP and what router you have.
If you promise not to laugh at me; I have an Ati Radeon Xpress 200. I have Windows XP Home Edition 2003. ISP is UPC. Router is Netgear WGT624. [editline]2nd September 2011[/editline]
After searching around about the router, it seems like it drops connections a lot, check the router physically to see which revision it is, it should be located on a sticker somewhere. WGT624 v4 can have DD-WRT firmware installed on it which would likely fix problems with the router.
I'll try to check it out right now. [editline]2nd September 2011[/editline] Couldn't find the version, anyways, I thought it could help if you knew that the Netgear router is linked through another router, an Arris router; Maybe it has something to do with that. [editline]2nd September 2011[/editline] Also, it only drops connection when I play games, I can lose connection to a game i'm playing but visit a website instantly after.
if it doesn't list the version, it's probably the first. If possible you could try directly connecting to your modem (the thing you linked to) and seeing if it still occurs. If so, it's your ISP or a software problem on your PC.
That's probably the modem, But I got the feeling it isn't a hardware fault. Could you try alttabbing out and running a browser while the game's DCing?
Are you using wireless? Wireless has a nasty habit of dropping packets, online games don't like this at all. Try connecting yourself to the internet with an ethernet cable.
I'm using a cable. A very loooooong cable.
I get the same problem sometimes, same ISP. You probably lose connection for a brief second and that freaks the game out, bumping you off the game.
Anyways, I put my cable directly into the Arris router, and I didn't lose connection anymore. The problem is, my brother and sister use the Netgear router for their laptop, since the Arris one doesn't have a wireless connection. So I guess this means I need to buy another router, since I cant connect the netgear router to the internet without linking it through another router.
A setup like this should make everyone happy:
A setup like this should make everyone happy:
Arris router only has 1 ethernet port and using a splitter isn't an option.
Sorry, i just assumed routers would have more than one port. I really don't see why a router with only one port exists, especially if it doesn't have wireless.
It's not a router, it's a modem, so it is a problem with the router, as I suspected. Get a new one, this one has a lot of people reporting dropped connections on it.
