My brother's open-box Lenovo U510 was working fine for awhile, but recently this happened to the monitor:

Shaking the monitor gently or pivoting the screen seems to get the job done temporarily, any idea as to what the problem is?
Either the cable going from the motherboard to the screen is fucked up/partially disconnected or there's something wrong with the PCB on the back of the LCD screen.
