Hey there. I'm in a bit of a dilemma here. I want to speed up my (handbuild) PC: CPU:E8500 C2D @ 3.6ghz (Artic cooling freezer pro 7) GPU:Club 4870 1GB (small oc) Mobo:Intel extreme DP45SG RAM:4GB ddr3 @ 700mhz (1400) PSU:(need a new one for CF or the 5870 annyway) Screen:HP w2216v (1680x1050) For games like Stalker/Metro2033/Crysis/mw2 ect ect. CPU: One of the best CPU's I can fit is the Q9550 but it only gives a 10% fps increase in most games (source tomshardware) so its fine for now. Ram: 4gb is fine. So that gets me to the GPU: Club 4870 1GB (small oc) I can either sell this one for 100€ and get a 5870 for 380€ (and another one in the future for CF) Or I can get another 4870 for CF for 100€ and have 2 4870 in CF which outperforms the single 5870. by a small margin. The problem is not having DX11 and having to upgrade alot in the future. What is your opinion on what I should do and the value of dx11. Also will we see a massive price drop in the HD5*** series now that Nvidia has its 4** series out? Tldr: Upgrades: 5870 for 280€ (dx11 future upgrade to CF) 4870 Crossfire for 100€ (future upgrade to ?) Holy shit 2x 4870 is that good? Thats not realy is it... How can a 5850 get 32 fps even in a game that chews up grfx like that and the 295 gets double it.. I would say get another 4870 then...
yea i have a cf'd 4870 1gb, it's glourious. I run bc2 maxed out 8x aa 16x filtering at 1920x1080 at a constant 50-60 fps

I find Techreport a lot better:
that looks more like it really... Is the 5870 2GB meant to be some other form of a 5970?
The 5870 2GB is the 'Eyefinity Edition' 5870, with an extra GB of VRAM.
This is absolutely no good representation. I find Techreport a lot better: 3X images
That is pretty useless for me since they don't test the 4870 in CF. Tomshardware however does: (the graph shown in my OP is for metro 2033 and for metro 2033 alone) This one has more cards and is very accurate: Tom's Hardware - Benchmark Sum of FPS Benchmarks 1680x1050
hurr durr the 5 series cards are running it in DX11, not 10. 4870 CF doesn't even beat a 5850 in DX10.1/10/9 games
Well, no games actually requires DX11, and when they do the 5870 is no loger a performance gfx, so I would go for an extra 4870, since it looks better in the benchmarks too. There's no reason to buy a 5870, only if you plan on cf'ing them later on..

In some games, crossfire scales really well, to the point you are almost seeing double FPS increase. In others, such as crysis, performance is little better than a single 5850
Not all games support crossfire either, and can sometimes cause unwanted problems. I'd go for the 5870, which you can also crossfire later on. Small margins are pretty unnoticable anyway.

Go for a 5850, Overclock it and get another 5850 in the future..
The only benchmarks you should go by are the inclusive ones on Toms. They take all 15 games they use, combine the average framerate and compile it into a single huge list, like this: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/gaming-graphics-cards-charts-2009-high-quality-update-3/Sum-of-FPS-Benchmarks-1920x1200,1702.html Look what's 5th :smug:
I thought a 4890 CF would be fifth, milky :) im disappointed at the single 5870...

This thread makes me cringe at how retarded some of you guys are.
*repeating what someone else said twice*
it actually hurts inside when you post now
Ok. Im going for a second 4870. HD5*** series are still in their *overpriced* state so I will not buy one atm. Since they will probably drop in priece in a year. Also: I run Metro 2033 at 15-60 Fps depending on the lighting in the game. Average at 35Fps. I will uppdate this thread when I get my second 4870 to see what the FPS difference is. (Ordering/getting it this tuesday)
