• 6870 X2 Possible insufficent power?

Hello all I have a problem that i don't have a solution for.. I have just received my new card, the 6870 X2, plugged it all in, powered it up and i get the usual bios information screen, then the next bit where it usually loads up the HDD etc, it just goes black. I've a 800W PSU, it is however a Hi-Power :http://www.redstore.com/OEMPSU144 Does it have enough power to run the card? Any other issues? I am totally lost :( Any help would be much appreciated.
Never heard of Hi-Power before, buy a name brand PSU It should technically be able to power your card though
Thats what i thought, i had 2 4870's in Crossfire before the 6870 and am technically still using the 4870's as its not working, but it seems odd, if the card was faulty would it show the bios load screen? [editline]6th October 2011[/editline] Perhaps a BIOS update? http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/downloads/?pid=250&psn=0006&lid=1&os=6 But my brain, she hurts!
I doubt that it's a power supply problem, check that the card is properly seated and if possible test it on another computer. Double check all the other connectors and jumpers as well just in case you knocked something when installing the card.
Well, it works fine in my friends PC, i went and got a new mobo and CPU as i wanted to upgrade to AM3 for a while, connected it all up and it worked, played some Bf3 Beta and it was smooth, temperature wasn't really that high, quit the game, browsed the internet 20minutes after, and then the screens went black and the audio went all fucked up. I reset, then it did the same thing as on my previous motherboard, this is odd because i had the card in for a few hours, and it worked fine. Several resets from installing drivers, no problem, then when im browsing the internet, bam, it cuts out, now it won't go past the bios screen, it did one and i got to the "Starting Windows" but it just froze... Is this PSU fucking up or just the card itself?
Since you've replaced most of the other hardware it could be a faulty PSU, best thing to do would be just to replace it and see if that fixes it but before you do that, are you using your old memory in the new mobo ? if so you may want to run memtest86 to check that there is no problems with the memory.
No i got a new stick of DDR3, i've had my 4870's in for a few hours, no problems what so ever.
Then it's probably the PSU. If you can get in to the BIOS check that the voltages look ok, or use a multimeter if you have one. But at this point I would try replace the PSU.
Yeh, i believe it was my PSU, even though its 800Watts, its upto 20amps i think the card requires 40 so i got an 850Watt Corsair with a 62amp rail, should arrive tomorrow.
