I'm looking for a tool that I can burn to disk, put in my laptop, boot from it, and COMPLETELY wipe my hard drive. Does anyone know of such a program.
I suggest DBAN.
I've tried that but when It will not boot for some reason. Linux and its grub errors stop it booting. Although it may be because im booting from a USB disk drive.
Are there any alternate similar programs.
I don't see why GParted wouldn't do the trick. It's obviously going to be slower than something like DBAN, but nevertheless, it would do what you need to do.
Any partition tools could be used to get rid of all partitions, but the data will still be there. When done correctly it could be retrieved afterwards.

Is that not for making linux distros bootable?
