Well, with Inte'ls i7 2600k supposedly to be priced at 562 dollars, I don't think it's gonna be a good upgrade, considering there will be a noticeable price drop on the 900 series.

I heard Intel's going to be deliberately locking core speeds and making people pay to 'unlock' more power.
I also heard that they're going to limit overclocking on purpose too

Yes the unlocked multiplier ver of the 2600 is 200 dollars more.
I heard that AMD is still cheaper.
