OK I currently have a...
AMD Phenom II X4 810 Processor (4 x 2.61Mhz)
Asus M4A79T Delux (AM3)
8GB DDR3 1333MHz Ram
Currently an ATI 5750 but just about to upgrade to a GTX 470 (dual fans)
Samsung SSD 256GB (SATA II)
I want to upgrade to
Asus Crosshair IV Formula Motherboard (for SATA III support)
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (hexacore 6 x 3.2Ghz (3.6 Max), I need them for rendering
16GB DDR3 2000Mhz Ram (I currently run out of ram using Photoshop and 3dsmax open with the kind of images i work with, i am on a 64bit OS and there are no current problems it also sees all 8GB of the ram)
2 x Seagate Barracudea XT 2TB 6GB/s SATA III 64MB Cache Drives (In raid config) and use my current Solid State Drive as a real-time backup drive, i'd also want to buy a small 32GB SSD as a scratch disk (virtual memeory, temp folders, auto-save etc).
Some of it may seem excesive but i'd like to not worry about upgrading anything bar the processor (to an octacore (8 cores) and the graphics card) for at least 5 - 6 years.
As for displays my trusty old Dell 2405Wfp died a few weeks ago and i am currently using my 32" 1080p TV as a display (it does surprisingly well actually, crystal clear text and easily passable as a computer screen)
I cannot decide whether to upgrade to the following...
Dell u2711 (2560x1440) and a Dell u2311 (1920x1080) as my auxiliary screen.
Dell 3007Wfp (2560x1600) and Dell 1907/8fp (1280x1024)
Dell 3008Wfp and any 17", 19" or 20" Dell screen
Any advice would be much appreciated
Holy shit dude, you can max out just about every game and you want more?
edit: I use my PC for designing 3D environments for games (3DS Max x64 latest subscription versions), Textures and graphics for games (Photoshop CS5 x64 & Paint.net for saving out .dds), Unity 3D For testing said 3D environments in real time), Gaming at the highest possible settings. I will also be using it in the future for chilling and building in virtual worlds such as Second Life when it matures a bit more. Ontop of all that it gets used for the general stuff like emails, browsing etc
edit: Kialtia you broke my auto-merge
LOL 16 GB RAM
No one ever

Maybe not so, but i use up 8GB, will probs end up using around 10 - 12, but never know i may need it in the future
You dont use up 8
What do you do on your pc?
Game?
I find it hard to believe that you utilise 8GB.
I find it hard to believe that you utilise 8GB.
Photoshop CS5 x64, several very large images open (5000x4000+), some with 20+ layers before they get cut down and saved out as game textures
Same.
Just keep your 8GB Ram get a Phenom II X4 955 and a 480 with the money you saved from the other shit
I think you are a liar. I doubt you actually use CS5 and you've googled what uses up loads of ram. Or you do do that stuff and anyway you still wouldnt need 16gb. I do that stuff with 4gb ram.
8 is more than enough

I suggest you check out my thread in creationism at some of my work BEFORE you start making accusations mate,
From what i have seen on this forum that's a sure fast way of getting yourself a nice, brand new shiny, top of the range ban
Fine i'm sorry for being grumpy it's just if you come on this forum asking for help and people give you advice and you ignore it it's annoying. If you REALLY want some more ram get 12GB, that should do you good and it will be impossible to use it all.
Again, i'm sorry
Alright, where are you buying from, UK/US/other.
And i suggest the Samsung Spinpoint F3 instead of the seagate ones,
Leave the 8GB RAM as is, if you are convinced that you need more look at the task manager if you are exceeding the 8GB (Doubt it).

Photoshop (7,231,887K), this is when i have all the images + the base photo's open
3DSMax (821,445K) this is with a few props opened
Not to mention all the other tasks such as Skype, Firefox, Dropbox etc. I do try to keep open tasks to a minimum and remove/stop services that i don't need and take out useless windows features.
As for the hard drives cheers for the advice i'll get the Spinpoint F3's
I recommend 12GB RAM if you really need it. 16 is over the top
Spinpoint f3s are amazing, i have two in raid0

Then get 12GB like derlicious suggested, i doubt you'll use more than that.

As for the timings 1333 VS 2000 doesn't create a big enough performance difference for the price, get 1600.
Even 1600 VS 1333 is negligible.
Even 1600 VS 1333 is negligible.
True, does 800/1333 even make a difference?
Still not much. Not enough to warrant upgrading to it if you already had 4GB 800 DDR2 for example.
Yeah, RAM speed doesn't make a massive difference in performance.
get 12GB, if you notice you're almost reaching the limit, add 4 gb more, but doubt it.
I just bought that motherboard. & I'm getting the 1055t.
All I can really ask is why is the Hard Drive so expensive?
There is this sata III hdd which is much cheaper even if you were to buy it in the same quantity (gb) http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1TB-Western-Digital-WD1002FAEX-Caviar-Black-SATA-6Gb-s-7200rpm-64MB-Cache-8-ms
Between 1600Mhz & 2000Mhz Ram you're not likely to see a performance change, so to save money I would go for 1600 if I were you.
Also, why a 27 inch monitor? Do you plan to do any gaming on this build or is it just for Photoshop/3DS max
