There are some pretty fun mods. Like the first person mod, Neo's Police Mod, a Paramedic Mod, and stuff like that if it helps you to decide. For $10 it's pretty much a great entry.

Borderlands is easily worth it, just make sure, if you get the GOTY, to finish the game bfore going after the DLC. And try to get a friend with you.
