So Here I am, looking for an alternative to buying a new gaming computer, and then it hit me. Why buy what you can build for much cheaper? Anyway I watched a series of videos on youtube about what each piece of hard ware is and its use. now I have a full list of parts but I need to know if they are all compatible. Like above, Go with the Q9550 if you're going with quad-core. The extra multiplier is not worth the money. Just overclock it yourself. That 6GB RAM is Triple-Channel (which works only on X58 boards) and it's DDR3 also, your motherboard supports DDR2 only. And that GPU is weak. Yes. Wait.. seems like I just re-emphasis what Reznor said :v:
You could do SO much better. What's your budget, and when are you buying this?

If you're going quad-core, you should go PII 955 or i7 if your budget allows.
If you're going quad-core, you should go PII 955 or i7 if your budget allows.
Based on what he plans to buy looks like his budget is around $1,000
Then get a PII 955.
I'm thinking I7 920 + Cheap 1366 board + 6GB 1333MHz ram + 4870 + 500GB HDD
I'm thinking PII 955 + Good AM3 board + 4GB 1333MHz RAM + GTX 275/GTX 280/4870 X2 + RAID 500GB HDs. :smug:

HI, BILLY MAYS HERE! HAVE YOU EVER WANTED A COMPUTER THAT CAN MAX PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING OUT FOR UNDER $1000? WELL LOOK AT THIS! https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/publicWishDetail.aspx?wishlistnumber=9027674 IT'S GOT AN ASUS MOBO, AMD PHENOM II 955, XFX GTX 275, 500W OCZ MODULAR PSU, 2 500GB WESTERN DIGITAL HDs IN RAID 0, 4GB G.SKILL DDR3 1333 WITH A CAS LATENCY OF 8, SONY DVD BURNER, AND ALL THIS SHIT'S IN AN ANTEC THREE HUNDRED! ONLY $885 BEFORE COMBO DEAL, TAX, SHIPPING, AND REBATES! BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! There's a combo deal with that motherboard and CPU that takes $80 off the price, so you could buy that combo without changing anything. The price would then be $805. You could upgrade to a 4870 X2 for about $150 and get a beefy (600-700W) PSU to power it. [editline]12:13PM[/editline] If you say you're building this in a month or more, I will rage.

I'd suggest going AMD if you're not buying i7. The Phenom II's are just as good as your C2Q, they're cheaper, and are more upgradeable (Intel is abandoning the LGA775 socket soon, while AMD is sticking with AM3 at least through 2010,
The 955 comes close to/outperforms the i7 920, as well.
Prismatex, once again, knows what he's talking about. And how long were you wanting to do that Billy Mays impression? Buy that build ASAP, OP, you will not be disappointing.
The Billy Mays thing came kinda spontaneously.
