As long as it doesnt have asbestos i will be happy. The side says : rN(A weird r [not the mirror one] and a pi sign)-5 I think that says gp-5 and under it it says : Triangle with M in it -I-80-5-Reverse C with ~ in it (its like ~>)

Oh cmon, help me. Did some googling but one says no, other says yes. Well I tried it, it worked, couldnt smell a thing, But my airways are a bit irritated(very dry), but i guess that is from the dust that was on it and the stuff to keep the latex/rubber good.
The GP-5 Gas Mask is a Russian-made single filter gas mask. It was issued to the Russian population starting in 1970; production ended in 1989. It is a lightweight mask, weighing 1.09 kg (2.42 lbs). It can operate in all weather and withstand temperatures from -40 degrees (Celsius & Fahrenheit) to 114 Celsius (174 Fahrenheit). The GP-5 also comes with sealed glass eye pieces. They were originally made to protect the wearer from radioactive fallout during the Cold War and were distributed to most fallout shelters. They have recently been tested in Poland to see if they have NBC protective capabilities. It was concluded that the mask will last in a NBC situation for 24 hours. They are a favorite of gas mask collectors due to the fact that they are common and have the "old" circular eyepieces like masks used in WWII and the "helmet" type masks. A common misconception is that the O.D green filters and brown "coffee can" filters contain asbestos; ---> however, the use of asbestos in gas mask filters ended after WW2. None of the GP-5 filters were built before 1970, so it is impossible for them to contain asbestos. They do, however, contain activated charcoal, which might be inhaled by the wearer if the cotton seals inside the filter are damaged. -Wikipedia
first:smile:
Posts like this will only get you violently torn apart limb from limb here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GP-5_gas_mask Says they do not have Asbestos. The wiki says that the filters do have activated charcoal in them, but that's only a danger when the cotton has been damaged. Might want to check for that damage. DAMN IT! Ninja'd by a few seconds... :ninja:
Yeah I read the wiki article before but I wanted to be sure. Thanks for the help !
never EVER use real unaltered filters in older gasmasks. EVER. hollow out the filter and put it back together, even if it dosent have asbestos, it can still have whatever chemichal it was blocking inside it.
