£1000 Budget: Prebuilt vs Selfbuilt vs Upgrade Current?

Howdy, good folks of the PC Building section. So I'm looking to get an upgraded rig and I've been thinking on the three options open to me. Basically, what should I be going for? I'm not very confident with building my own system, but it's something I would consider because I hear it's cheaper by a significant ammount. My current computer could possibly be upgraded but I'm fairly unsure if it's possible or even worth the hassle.
What I want to run: Games such as GTA IV, Fallout New Vegas.
Resolution: 1440x900
My current specs are noted below, if there's anything I've missed that could be important to know, then just let me know!

So, what are your opions on the subect? What direction should I be taking?
Selfbuild. You'd have to change nearly everything in your current build anyway.
Self build

i5 760, might squeeze a 5850 or 470 in too
You can get a great computer for about £700 if you self-build
for 1000 pounds (like $1600USD?) you could probably go 6gb ddr3 1333mhz, 5970 (so you'd need a big case), and pick any of the i7's, and a terabyte. And also pick any mobo that will work, with usb3 and esata.
This is if course if ur using ur old monitor. otherwise you'd need to pick a lower end i7 and a 5870.
Don't convert GBP to USD because the markets are different.
