I'm running into some inheritance rather soon, and my pc is under-performing in most of the things I'm trying to do, so, without going into detail, I'd appreciate some suggestions for hardware, and PLEASE don't stretch the budget to abnormal sizes, I have other shit I need to afford, too.
I already/would only really play/use games/applications similar to:
L4D-2, Minecraft, GTAIV with some choice mods included, TF2, Fallout, and Crysis/its sequels.
Sony Vegas, 3DS Max, and Source's hammer.
I live in Iowa, US.
Limited current specs:
• 4094 MB of ram memory. Would like upgrade suggestions.
• AMD Athlon II X2 245 w/ 2 CPUs, ~2.9GHz. Would very much like upgrade suggestions.
• Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT. Would very much like upgrade suggestions.
• Windows Vista premium 64 bit(:downs:). Know what I'm getting.
• 222 GB interchangeable hard drive. Would very much like upgrade suggestions.
• Shitty old dell keyboard. Would very much like upgrade suggestions.
• Logitech wired mouse which I'm quite happy with. Happy with current hardware.
• Dell monitor(1400x900). Would like upgrade suggestions.
• Asus m2n68-am se2 motherboard/ Would like upgrade suggestions.
As a few end notes:
• To specify over hard drive, I'd like a hard drive capable of at least 800 GB, external, preferably.
• For graphics card, I usually end up with a lot of errors in memory intensive activities, my current one is a terrible decision for a unit on my part, it's horrible on higher settings and resolutions • combined with the rest of my setup, so I'd need a fair upgrade from the default 512 MB.
• I can't really elaborate on the keyboard, since most of the labels have been scraped/worn off, I'd just like a good, sturdy, and fairly inexpensive one, really.
• Monitor wise, I might(though don't particularly need to) go for a 1080p capable monitor which isn't oversized(I'm near sighted and am fairly uncomfortable when wearing glasses at my desk), I'm not picky.
• As for the processor, I'd just like something with more speed and power than what I currently have, it does not matter to me what kind of brand, as long as it isn't some cheap knock off.
• As for case, and PSU, mine perform fairly well, so suggestions aren't necessary, though, if you have a much better suggestion to what houses my current setup fairly well, go ahead.
Much appreciated to those who suggest.
Apart from the CPU, we have really similar rigs and I'm also looking to upgrade. I will be watching this thread for ideas!
I already picked out a few things over in my own thread on this forum, maybe go over there and take a look if you want. I'm not sure if I made good choices or not, but that's why I made the thread in the first place.
It sounds like you want a whole new built (not need, but want)
Are you happy with your current computer case? Ill put a build together tomorrow.
Can you find out what wattage your PSU is? Its on a label on the side.

Yeah, my computer case is nice enough to keep, though my psu is left over from my older-than-current pc, which practically got partially destroyed in a fire, the psu still works relatively well, but the label is obscured, it's somewhere in the 300-400w ranges, though.
Im working on a build now. One sec.
