First Build - Would Appreciate Error Checking and Improvement Suggestions
4 replies, posted
I'm on a budget of $1,150 USD or under to build a gaming rig for my younger brother (this includes tower + monitor + peripherals).
I have this so far. I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to improve this build. For instance, if I can spend less and get the same results, I'd like to know.
Any ways to get the cost down would really help.

Also, do I need to buy some sort of cooling unit for the processor?
I know fuck-all about the details of home builds and would really appreciate any help here.
If I am correct as long as you are not over-clocking frequently with the i5 the stock cooler should be fine. Also if you plan to crossfire or SLI in the future maybe a more powerful PSU would be advisable.
Nope, he won't be doing any overclocking, at least to my knowledge.
He shouldn't be crossfiring either.
Other than that, are there any blatant compatibility issues or something that I'm missing? My brother has worked really hard for this build and I'd like to do it right for him.

Thinking about switching out the monitor for this one to save some money:

Opinions? The resolution isn't a problem. I'm just not sure of Acer's track record with displays.
How did you manage to get something that shit to $1150?

$1133 - HAF 912, 2500K, 4GB DDR3, 6870, 650w XFX, 1080P Monitor, Blu-ray drive and extras.
Well that was a huge improvement.
I really appreciate the help... I thought I was going to have to skimp on parts because of the budget, but that's a pretty good system.
Thanks a ton.
