Hey guys. I want to ask you a question. I want to buy this awesome 7.1 surround sound headset, but I know some games are only set up for 5.1 sound. Can the G35 "downgrade" to 5.1 for those kind of games, or do I have to hear those games with regular 2.0 stereo?
Thanks!
EDIT:
I'm going to town to buy it now, I'll tell you what I think later!
Tell me, if it can't "downgrade" to 5.1, how would it be able to "downgrade" to 2.0?
"Although Logitech claims the headset is capable of delivering 7.1-channel audio, each muff has only physical speaker inside: a 40mm driver with a 15mm voice coil."
Not real 7.1 anyways.
You can do better for the money.
Tell me, if it can't "downgrade" to 5.1, how would it be able to "downgrade" to 2.0?
Because there's a switch on the back of the headset that switches between Stereo and 7.1 Surround.
Also yes, the G35 does support 5.1 sound(You'd think it would be obvious because it supports 7.1), however you're going to need to set that with the in-game options.
I never got that. How could a headset ever be more than stereo when it only has 2 physical speakers? I mean it might be able to take in 7.1 channels and play them... but it would still come out of 2 speakers... stereo.
It doesn't matter, 7.1 is a gimmick anyways.
EDIT: I mean for headphones. Sorry for not clarifying that SomeGuest and Stone555 :D

uh yeah I do in my house's theatre room

Also notice how they almost never mention the words 7.1 in the headphones section of head-fi.
I just recently bought one, and I really like it. I don't really use the 7.1 often, but the headset is probably the most comfy headset and best sound out of my Medusa and Razor headsets I owned. I also like how the mic flips up and is USB so I don't have to plug in 6 cables for sound like my razor.

The reason they sound good is because you've only listened to razor headsets.

I got it as a gift, and is that all your in this thread is to bash this headset? It's a good headset, if you can show me a better head set for the $80 I paid for it I would be glad to see it.

The Logitech G35's use USB which means it has it's own onboard soundcard to mimic 7.1 surround sound. Which means if you have your own soundcard, you cant make use of it with the G35's. It's really the only reason I dislike it.
Speedlink's Meduza NX actually have 4 speakers in each muff, so yeah, it is real 5.1.

Yeah and stereomix magically disappears.
Also those headphones are really ugly.

That actually would not be a better choice over the G35 if you don't have a sound card, also those are headphones, not a headset.
Though those may have great sound quality with a sound card, the Logitech G35 is still amazing sounding headset, with damn good virtual 7.1 surround sound.
Yes, get it

Most onboard sound is better than the G35s, believe it or not. The fact that they removed "choice" from them is one reason I will never buy them, I don't understand why it was so hard for Logitech to just add USB and 2.5mm. Yes they are headphones, but why is it so hard to buy a 5$ clip on mic? I have one that I just attach to my keyboard and everyone can hear me loud and clear. I'd rather have one really good dedicated headset for sound.
I thought of buying the G35 but it makes sense. I have a soundblaster Audigy ZS.
Few years old but I guess it's still better than some onboard stuff, isn't it.
Are there any good alternatives to the G35?
I'm not an audiophile (I have a 10€ headset), I want it practical and comfortable.
Volume control and a microphone mute are important and it needs to be comfortable.
So the G35 looked as if it'd fit those criteria but I didn't think about the sound card problem...

Not true, all the 3.5mm headsets I've plugged into my onboard sound card are very inferior to the G35's, and not just mine either, The times I've used 3.5mm headsets on about 5 other setups at my friends house didn't sound as good either. These were all Realtek HD onboard sound cards however. Only used one sennheiser though, which was http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PC-350-Gaming-Headset/dp/B0012XFDWO/ and is supposedly a really good headset.
And due to the fact you can't achieve virtual 7.1 with 3.5mm plugs, it's not really worth it imo.
Speedlink's Meduza NX actually have 4 speakers in each muff, so yeah, it is real 5.1.
Yeah, my cyborg 5.1 set has 4 drivers in each cup as well, that doesn't mean that these are virtual with one driver per cup.
The main I decided on the G35 was that it was USB. I like to use my headset on my laptop easily with a one cord solution. I'm not a huge audiophile or anything and they sound great to me. I was considering picking up a pair of sennheisesr, but I hate using clip on mics.

I found an epic deal for these.

sound bars are the same theory, usually 3 speakers operating at different frequencies to produce what sounds like to your ear as sort of surround-soundish. the difference here is that sound bars rely on the perfect environment (as in basically watching/listening in a closet or hallway, pretty shitty), and this relies only that you have a skull with ears. whether or not the surround sound simulation is of good quality, i don't know, never used them. i'd rather have physical 5.1/7.1 over simulated anything any day.

hah, right. yeah guys surround sound is a scam. and don't fall for any of this high resolution bull shit none of that matters :jerkbag:

that would have to be the way to go, but sound quality is still a factor.
while having more speakers does indeed spread the produced sounds around, and thus allow each speaker to produce higher quality sounds then cramming them into/out of 2 speakers, the sound can still be shit.

oh ok well yeah i take that back, i have to agree with you.
like i said, stereo has already been simulating surround forever, it only really works with a good set of stereo headphones (and you'll only notice it with a good pair), but it's been there.
Maybe the Roccat Kave?

It actually has three speakers per ear.

no
Just grab something good and a clipon mic.
A good pair of stereo headphones and a clipon mic is the way to go. When yo ubuy surround sound speakers think about what you are getting, more cheap small speakers. I think a good pair of stereo headphones with 50mm drivers is much better. Better bass and treble. Big is better with drivers as long as they are high quality.
What you hear is only as good as your source, if you use an on board card it won't sound as good as a dedicated card. An old Audigy 2 ZS I have sounds much better then my onboard sound and has better available drivers, kx drivers ftw. I have a pair of Equation RP-21s, really nice sounding headphones, great bass with so-so highs stock, foam mod fixes it.
Get a set of headphones with a replaceable cable, that is that part that will go first. Inline controls are the main spot, any where that has a wire going into a hard point where it flexes is a spot where you are more likely to get a short.

But it doesn't, surround sound sounds like poop with G35, I can hardly tell if the enemy is behind, in front, below or above me. I just know if it's to the left or right, which then proves that the surround sound is useless.
Though the stereo in it is great.
