• £800 build for a friend

Basically he needs everything but an OS - monitor, speakers, headset, mouse, keyboard, optical drive etc. So £200-300 aside to cover those, he wants a PC that will be as futureproof and upgradable as possible (so leaning towards an 890 chipset AMD motherboard, Phenom II 955, etc.). He would ideally like a monitor capable of 1080p, MX518 and G11 (or similarly priced keyboard), but is open to suggestions for both speakers and headset. Games he will play include L4D2, TF2, Crysis, FF14. Sites to link to are aria.co.uk and overclockers.co.uk, as both have decent prices and shipping to Northern Ireland. No ebuyer. :P EDIT: He doesn't need a case - selling him my old NZXT Apollo cheaply once I get my new NZXT Phantom. Do throw in a couple of decent 120mm fans though, as I'll be salvaging the aftermarket ones I currently have in it, and it's literally an oven without them.
So the £800 doesn't include all those things?
So the £800 doesn't include all those things?
The total budget is £800 for everything, sorry I was a bit misleading there :P
Give me ten mins then [editline]07:46PM[/editline] This comes to £780 without headset or speakers, he may have to get them on by one or cut down the GPU to a GTX 460 (I really wouldn't do this though) CPU:https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/CPUs+/+Processors/AMD/Phenom+II+AM3/AMD+Phenom+II+X4+Quad+Core+955+Black+Edition+125W+C3+?productId=39930 Motherboard:https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/AMD+Socket+AM3/Gigabyte+GA-MA78LM-S2H+AMD+760G+(Socket+AM3)+DDR2+PCI-Express+Micro-ATX+Motherboard+?productId=38284 RAM:https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Memory/DDR3+Dual+Channel+%E2%80%93+1600MHz+/+PC3-12800/Corsair+XMS3+4GB+(2x2GB)+DDR3+PC3-12800C9+1600MHz+Dual+Channel+Kit+?productId=37570 PSU:https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/Modular+700-950W/OCZ+ModXStream+Pro+700W+Modular+Silent+SLI/Crossfire+Ready+ATX2.2+Power+Supply+?productId=34273 (I know it's excessive but it's only £2 more than the 600W version) HDD:https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Hard+Drives/Serial+ATA/Samsung+HD103SJ+SpinPoint+F3+1TB+SATA-II+3.5%22+Hard+Drive+?productId=37726 Optical drive: https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/CD/DVD+Drives/Internal/SATA/Samsung+SH-S223C+22x+Internal+DVD%C2%B1R/RW+SATA+Drive+-+Black+?productId=38547 GPU:https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/ATI+5800+Series/VTX+ATI+Radeon+HD+5850+1024MB+GDDR5+PCI-Express+Graphics+Card+?productId=40733
£600 by my count :| Also how about this motherboard: https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/AMD+Socket+AM3/Gigabyte+GA-890GPA-UD3H+AMD+890GX+%28Socket+AM3%29+PCI-Express+DDR3+Motherboard+?productId=40245 (not a huge fan of micro atx, and I have this one myself :P)
Whoops, missed off the extra stuff at the end: Monitor:https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Monitors/19+Inch+LCD/LG+W1934S-BN+19%22+Widescreen+LCD+Monitor+-+Black+?productId=39483 Windows:https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Software/Operating+Systems/Microsoft+Windows+7+Home+Premium+64-Bit+-+OEM+?productId=38272 Mouse:https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Peripherals/Mice/Logitech+MX518+Optical+Gaming+Mouse+?productId=17695 Keyboard:https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Peripherals/Keyboards/Wired+Keyboards/Arianet+USB+Keyboard+-+Black+?productId=39077 That motherboard pushed the build over budget and it isn't worth sacrificing anything for. How about this? https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/AMD+Socket+AM3/Gigabyte+GA-MA785GT-UD3H+AMD+785+(Socket+AM3)+DDR3+PCI-Express+Motherboard+?productId=37520
That motherboard looks alright, but surely it would rule out any chance of bulldozer? Not that a 955 wouldn't last a pretty long time. Also don't need an OS like I said in the OP, and that monitor is a tad small - any chance you could fit in at least 1650x1080 and a slightly better keyboard? And he will probably be okay with some cheap speakers/headset, or he can downgrade the graphics card or psu maybe if absolutely necessary.

Yeah I was under the impression it will only be backwards compatible with 800 series chipsets :/
Yeah I was under the impression it will only be backwards compatible with 800 series chipsets :/
Not this shit again. I don't know no-one really knows. Don't buy a more expensive motherboard if he has to sacrifice his GPU for it but if he can afford the extra then he may as well
Yeah I was kind of expecting that :P I'll go with the cheaper motherboard then :)
Any changes you would make to this? Also £21 next day delivery for all that to northern ireland - <3 aria
Well I did manage to get a 5850 in, and it was under budget so I'd go for my original build + new motherboard
Well you can remove the tower if you're selling yours to him. and ditch the cooler unless your friend is intending to oc
Not entirely convinced I will even be able to get a Phantom case any time soon (ordering from dodgy german sites ftl), and as I am building the pc I will probably be OCing it a fair bit. Also yeah you're right about a 5850 - I'll make some changes... [editline]1[/editline] How's that?
Looks good
