Is a four-year bachelor in "Arts & Science" worth a $200 000 loan

Hey. Here comes one of the big decisions in life: is a bachelor worth what it's going to cost me? A $200 000 student loan might take me 'till retirement to pay down, so is it at all worth it?
No.
This is a highly important personal decision, I wouldn't leave it to a bunch of 12 year old kids on a forum.
If it's something you are really passionate for, go for it.

I'm not leaning my decision on you guys, I'm hoping on getting more inputs and [hopefully] get perspectives I haven't considered before.
I'd join the armed forces. National Guard or Reserve will pay a decent amount of your schooling and give you a place to sleep for a few years. Not nearly as much debt to worry about later.
And I was going for an Applied Science degree too. But it was way too general to me personally. They have you do all the stuff you hopefully learned back in Highschool. But make you pay for it. And a lot of it doesn't apply to the career you probably want in the first place.
And the economy isn't great right now either. You could get out of college in 4 years and still have to work at a coffee shop or fast food place. With or without the debt.
My opinion would be to narrow down your degree / job interests some more before you throw so much money at it. Because if you don't narrow it down the school will just drain you of your money with all the pre req. courses for something you aren't even interested in.
That's my 2 cents, hopefully someone else will give you some more/better advice.
Arts&Science? Never heard of such a degree..
Ok, working perspectives?
Buy $200 000 worth of hookers instead.

Not sure if banks are currently writing up "Hooker loans"
Buy $200 000 worth of hookers instead.
But the question is...
One $200,000 hooker, or 200,000 $1 hookers?
$200k is an absolute fuckton of money. I hope you comprehend that.
Unless you're parents are loaded or you have a great job right now, I seriously recommend paying in smaller segments. Take loans for each year of college, and get more as needed - paying off loans just sky-rockets your credit anyways.
Unless you're going to a fucking Ivy League school, you only need about 5-15k per year. Less if you're good with money. The biggest expenses will be tuition and books. Just assume every class will be 100-300 dollars in books. :v:

That, or you photocopy them for 20$
$200k?! That's fuckin' exorbitant from where i'm standing; over here in England i'm slated to pay out £8k a year for a three-year Bachelor of Arts in Games Design at UEL, which'll leave me with a £24k debt at the end of the three years. Compared to the four-year arts-and-sciences you're doing, my potential debt is almost 20% of the scratch you're planning on turfing over (current conversion rates mean $200k = just under £125k).
What details can you divulge about this four-year Bachelors and the university you plan to go to?

Yeah. Not sure how you do that with some of the 1200 page books we have.
I see if I can find mine online first. Also, you always try to go the first week without them, to see if the class actually uses the bloody things.
A degree in arts and science is next to useless. If you're going to spend 200K on a degree do so on a degree that will actually pay that debt off.
As someone WITH a degree in Visual Effects, no, not at all. My loans total around 200k and it has probably ruined me for the rest of my life. Science and Arts WAS a hot degree about 10 years ago, but now it's a massively oversaturated market with very, very little job opportunities for new grads.

Didn't happen to have a 1200 pages one assigned so far. Worked wonders with little manuals tho. Bigger books are often not to be studied entirely here, (since most classes are divided in modules, and just the A module is needed) so out of a 600 pages book you're likely to have to photocopy just 250 or less. Would never spend 100€ on a book when I don't even need half of it. :v:
Also sucks to hear how much you guys gotta pay for education there. I spend 1700€ every year, and I'll do so for 2 more years. If within 3 years I don't get the degree, I'll have to pay 2000/year for the extra ones.
If everything goes well at the end I would have spent 5'100€ for the degree. How on earth you get to spend 200'000? You can get as many as 40 degrees here for the same sum.
200k sounds steep for a bs in arts and science, why
Because tthats how much i have taken out for a 5 year chem engineering degree
(No i didnt take it all out at once and i hope you are smart enough not to either) but by the end i prpbably will have something close to 200k in loans,
That said i am going to one of the best engineering schools in my state, if you want that degree, go for it but dont be like my friend, come here and spend 200k on early childhood which can be done cheaply elsewhere
After 4 years at my college, the average student debt is just over 8,000 dollars. 200,000 dollars for a college is pretty ridiculous. Look into some scholarships, and see what the college can pay (and whether or not they'll pay that for all 4 years) and you should have a LOT less than 200k.
probably not but we shouldn't really be advising you
40k per year, ~4 year degree, 20k in scholarship per year, still paying ~85k
the OP didnt say where infact he/she is going, still seems like a little much, espeacialy if they are planning on taking it out all at once, i knew a guy that did that, flunked out, now he has 50k in loans because he took out all 4 years at once
$200,000 is more expensive than most colleges I've seen
the most expensive one I've seen is about $90,000. I would go for the loan, but ONLY if you can pay it back with the money you didn't use. Then go to a decent college that's NOT $200,000.

shutup losser :(
You can buy 20000000 1 cent hookers.
where are you planning on going to college? community college might be a better option. although it depends on the area, the community college where i live, (morris county) is like one of the top 5 in the nation or something like that, while still having reasonable prices and whatever. even if you don't want to do community college for the entire degree, you might consider doing 1-2 years in community college as it would save you 40-80k. and even if you're not going to community college, do you really need to go to a 50k a year school?
200,000 is a pretty ridiculous an mount no matter what you're going for. You can get the same education for probably a fifth of the cost.
What's so special about this school anyways?
If it's something that you really want, then I guess you could do it, but $200,000 would be a bitch to pay back.
What exactly do you plan on majoring in? And which college are you attending?
Why are all of you assuming he lives in the states?
