• RAM and Motherboard compatible?

Hi guys, just checking to see that this motherboard and RAM are compatible, going to upgrade my PC. Thanks :) https://secure.scan.co.uk/aspnet/Shop/SavedBasket/Show.aspx?Id=3dacfa801fc34a6c86454e4eb59c9082 Also, is the RAM currently compatible with my Pentium Dual Core E5200 Processor? I'm going to upgrade to a Core 2 Quad at Christmas.
for the price of a decent core 2 quad you could get an i5 760 and a decent mobo (MSI P55-GD65) keep your current mobo and RAM and at christmas just upgrade to i5 or phenom 2 also the case is pretty shit and change the hard drive to a samsung spinpoint F3
What is it with you and spinpoint F3s? :P Cool, I was thinking that. What's wrong with the case? My mate's got it, it's silent as shit, which is what I'm going for.
The motherboard is what determines if the ram is compatible. As long as the CPU works with the motherboard, and the memory also works with that motherboard, then the CPU and ram will work together too. That motherboard accepts up to DDR3 1333, but you'll only get that high speed when overclocking the ram. Otherwise it'll run at the lower DDR3 1066 or 800 speed(800 on your E5200 setup). This is okay, you can run ram slower than rated, it's only when you try to run it faster than rated that you might have problems. Buying the faster 1333 costs more but gives you some room to push performance as you upgrade your system. The only thing I don't like about your build is getting 1.65v ram, when 1.5v is the standard. I like long term reliability and hot ram(high volts) tends not to last as long. Of course higher volt ram is usually faster but I'm not sure going to CAS8 vs 9 is worth it, but you may feel different.
I got the spinpoint. Its fast and cool but sometimes its pretty loud when I'm using it.
Thanks for the reply, but uuh... [img_thumb]http://myfacewhen.com/images/63.jpg[/img_thumb]
He means that the RAM you have has a higher voltage than the standard. The one you selected is 1.65v and the standard is 1.5. Basically, your RAM will be faster but won't last as long. Pretty much equal to overclocking of the RAM. CAS is basically the latency of the RAM, lower = faster.
Thanks. How much longer are we talking here?
