Will updating iPhone 4 to 5.1 remove my jailbreak?

Basically the gripe is I have an iPhone 4 that now won't read any SIM card, but I have extended cover until October and seeing the Genius Bar tomorrow.
I had a tethered 5.0 jailbreak and couldn't remove it as both "update and restore" buttons in iTunes were greyed out.
So, I used redsnow and tempted to use a 4.3.3 IPSW, which of course didn't work, but in iTunes, it doesn't see any iOS on my phone (blank) and NOW lets me restore.
When I press "restore" it asks me to update to 5.1. Now I know jailbreakers have been refrained from doing this, but I need to take my iPhone tomorrow with no jailbreak hoping to get it replaced or fixed.
Will updating to 5.1 remove the jailbreak altogether? (Which is what I need)
go to a new computer with latest itunes then RESTORE, not update to 5.1. restore wipes everything including cydia, for update, not so sure.
Updating to any version of iOS while jailbroken will remove your jailbreak. An iOS 5.1 jailbreak has already been successfully created, but has not been released yet. You're probably better off updating to 5.1, getting your phone looked at, and then jailbreaking when it's released.

Thank you. Noticed my download failed from iTunes, trying again.. is there any alternate way to remove a jailbreak? At the moment, because iTunes sees no iOS on my phone, it won't turn on.

iTunes doesn't recognize your phone? I have a 4S jailbroken on iOS 5.0.1 and iTunes interacts with it just fine.

I tried going back to 4.3.3 (knowing it wouldn't work) then cancelled it.
iTunes sees it as:

Capacity: N/A
Software Version: N/A
Serial Number: N/A
I'm hoping the update will restore it jailbreak free so my excuse at the Apple store can be the SIM slot isn't working. Otherwise i'll have to make up that my iPhone wouldn't turn on "after restoring". If it does end up going that way, if they manage to get the phone working, will there be any traces of jailbreak?
Since you have an iPhone 4, you can do a semi-tether jailbreak of iOS 5.1 using redsnow: https://sites.google.com/a/iphone-dev.com/files/home/redsn0w_win_0.9.10b7.zip?attredirects=0&d=1
Just install SemiTether from Cydia after jailbreaking.
Oh ffs, funny ratings incoming.
Updating to 5.1 iOS fixed my SIM card problem. Now it reads it..
