Amazon Instant Video freaks the fuck out of my monitor
7 replies, posted
Whenever I load an Amazon Instant Video page in Chrome, for a movie or tv show, my monitor will display white noise until the tab is closed or the computer restarted. At first I thought my GPU was failing (whole desktop is about a week old, assembled by me), but I have not noticed any problems while playing games or watching youtube.
It looks like this but with a bit less vivid colors

The pages load properly in Microsoft Edge.
This is very puzzling and Google doesn't seem to have anything on the issue (or my google-fu is just failing me). Any insights would be appreciated.
Monitor is an ASUS VG248QE 144Hz and I'm using a GTX 970 with a dual-link DVI connection
Possibly HDCP kicking in? Though both your monitor and GPU/DVI shouldn't have an issue with that. And Amazon throws an error when that happens.
It's definitely something between Chrome and my desktop, going to this link with my laptop and Chrome is fine.
My desktop is running Windows 10, perhaps there is some incompatibility?
I've had something similar before, what's the refresh rate of your monitor? When running amazon videos, having a monitor with a high refresh rate (Like 144Hz) can cause your screen to fizz out like that.
Quick solution: force your monitor to relocate source, and it'll return you to your normal screen.
Long term solution: reduce your monitor's refresh rate to like 120Hz or even 60Hz when viewing amazon videos. That fixed the issue for me.

Oh hey, relocating the source worked! What a weird problem, I'd be interested to know what the root cause is.
Thanks for the response!

I feel sad turning the monitor down, so I'll just use an alternate browser for amazon videos
Yeah, if it works in Edge you might as well just use that.
I've had a similar problem with netflix before and I'm pretty sure it was Silverlight that was causing the issue so try reinstalling that and seeing if it helps

Tried, unfortunately no change in behaviour
