• Installed new RAM, suddenly computer will not receive power

I just seated some new RAM after shutting down my PC [I]properly[/I], went to the power button, pressed it and then: :speechless: So I tried resetting my CMOS battery and even replaced it. Then tried just slotting in the old RAM. The PC is still just absolutely dead. No Mobo power LED or anything. (Yes, it's plugged in and no, the switch is not flipped.) Could the PSU have died for some reason while it was shutdown for all of 10 minutes? I'm going to be so bored tonight but I could go get a replacement tomorrow. I'm in a cybersecurity foundations class so I need access to my own system. I just don't want to waste the time and money if there's more troubleshooting that can be done. Relevant specs: Mobo: ASUS z-97a PSU: Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus 700w New RAM: Corsair Vengeance CMY16GX3M2A2400C11R Old RAM: g.skill Rip jaws F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL [editline]18th February 2017[/editline] Just remembered that, around a year ago, my computer wouldn't power on so I just let it sit overnight. The next morning, it just turned on and has been working and booting fine ever since. I wonder if the same thing is happening right now... This could be a case of my Mobo having an issue as well which is a possibility not mentioned in my original post.
Turn off the computer and power supply and unplug it. Hold down the power button for about 30-35 seconds or press it a bunch. Plug it back in and try starting the computer again.

I'm going to run a paperclip test and maybe get a voltmeter so I can determine if it's the PSU or Mobo causing this.
Check that the back of the motherboard has enough space and that there is nothing shorting out to the case. Like all standoffs are installed correctly etc.
I tried a paper clip test and it yielded absolutely nothing. In other words, my PSU mysteriously decided to off itself. Going to buy a new one tomorrow and try it.

[QUOTE='[EG] Pepper;51844470']Tried a new/different power lead?[/QUOTE] Hmm that's a really good point, will try real quick. [editline]19th February 2017[/editline] Nah, still ded
It's an issue similar to what I've encountered a few times. I believe it's related to bad capacitors which discharge and then take an extremely long time to recharge after being completely removed from power for some time. Computer might not respond at all but after a while of being plugged in it can pretty much magically start working. Best case scenario it's just the PSU, worst case scenario it's the motherboard, though your model uses solid capacitors so it's kinda unlikely.

On the issue of time, I don't want to deal with it in the future. I have important things I need to do now more than ever. Picking up a supernova 750 g2 in a couple of hours. I really, really hope it's the PSU :v:
New PSU worked. RIP 6 year old PSU [editline]19th February 2017[/editline] My main HDD is now not being detected. I'm about to throw something.
Does it spin up normally? Any clicking noises?
Wait no, it's being recognized it's just... not showing up as drive E [editline]19th February 2017[/editline] Like, I can see it in the BIOS, my desktop is missing though because apparently E doesn't exist [editline]19th February 2017[/editline] Ok rebooted and we're magically back to normal. Thank you everyone who posted.
