• Facepunch Community Build! "Ultimate PC Sanctuary"
    72 replies, posted
I was tempted to throw this in PC building or Fast Threads but I felt because this encompassed more than just that, I thought I would try here. Anyways, I was thinking what would be the best possible computer station one can conceive, right down from the room, lights, chair, desk, monitors, the computer itself, mousepads, every fine detail you can think of to make the ultimate computer sanctuary. So FP how about we and try and do so? There would be quite a lot to pick out and I'm even more sure to argue about. I'll start with an essential basic that is often overlooked when making the ultimate "sanctuary", the chair. I chose the "Galaxy Execute Chair" by ERA products. Cost is 1280 USD http://www.bizchair.com/galaxy-are.html# Now that I got the ball rolling post your suggestions and I'll update the thread. And if enough people object, I'll change what was posted. Once everything is put forth, I'll go ahead and photoshop everything in, so we can see just how everything would look. In short lets make something thats look the opposite of this So post/argue/bitch/complain. Maybe post some proper pc sanctuaries while we're at it. Things to keep in mind, power surge protectors, servers, cooling, etc "Galaxy Execute Chair" by ERA products. For 1280 USD, that chair better fucking cook me dinner and fap for me.
A fully-stocked minifridge is ESSENTIAL. If possible, get a refrigerated soda fountain.
A fully-stocked minifridge is ESSENTIAL. If possible, get a refrigerated soda fountain.
Post one and I'll add it. (no expenses spared)
That chair looks like it should be mounted on the floor of a puddle jumper (stargate reference).
They don't call it the Galaxy chair for nothing.
Random googling got me to this one: http://compare.ebay.com/like/150511235376?ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&_dmd=Gallery&var=sbar&rvr_id=165884193091&crlp=1_263602_304692&UA=WVS%3F&GUID=33c85dbb12c0a0aad55188c1fff531f1&itemid=150511235376&ff4=263602_304692 $600, but I, at least, would save money in the long run with one of these. $100 for 5 gallons of syrup = 30 gallons of drink = $3 per gallon. .57 Euros per liter, if you're so inclined. AKA dirt fucking cheap. Maybe get one for booze as well. For those nights you wish to play STALKER the Russian way.

Instead of using a soda fountain. If you wanna go cheap you could get a small water cooler.
If it dispenses Bawls I'll be happy.
It probably could. I searched for about a minute, couldn't find it (Google apparently assumed I meant "balls"), but I did find Red Bull, so you probably could get it. [editline]9th November 2010[/editline]
Instead of using a soda fountain. If you wanna go cheap you could get a small water cooler.
Cheap? What do you think we are, peasants?
He'll no, if were spending that much on a chair we best slap some 22' s on that mofo.
Judging by that picture in the OP of what we don't want it to look like, I think we need a pretty bitching garbage can. Just saying.
Well since there is no budget that I can see have a cotton candy machine on the thing. Like one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/CE-ELECTRIC-COMMERCIAL-COTTON-CANDY-FLOSS-MAKER-MACHINE-/140473923942?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20b4e5f966#ht_3477wt_1139
Judging by that picture in the OP of what we don't want it to look like, I think we need a pretty bitching garbage can. Just saying.
Better be finding a pretty bitching garbage can then, maybe a trash compactor while we're at it.
Better be finding a pretty bitching garbage can then, maybe a trash compactor while we're at it.
The smallest compactor I can find is pretty damn huge http://cgi.ebay.com/KitchenAid-KUCS03CTBL-Full-Console-Trash-Compactor-/230547616524?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35adb5730c#ht_2755wt_905
OK, since this is a computer room, we're going to need a few computer-related things. 1) Full UPS. I suggest a BladeUPS system - assuming a 3000-watt total draw, including monitors, that will give you 30 minutes of game time once the power goes out per blade. Add some external batteries, and you can game for two hours without power. 2) MASSIVE sound. I mean EVERYTHING - subwoofers, woofers, mid-range drivers, tweeters, supertweeters, the works. Mount a tactile transducer on that expensive chair, so you can FEEL the bass while you hear it. I want a sound system that I need clearance from the DoD to install. And forget 5.1 sound - I demand 22.2 surround sound. With that, I should be able to no-scope you just by the sound of your footsteps. 3) Can we get a lava lamp the size of a column? Do they even make such things, or would that have to be custom. I just want a 2-meter-tall, 50cm-across lava lamp. Is that so much to ask? [editline]9th November 2010[/editline]
The smallest compactor I can find is pretty damn huge http://cgi.ebay.com/KitchenAid-KUCS03CTBL-Full-Console-Trash-Compactor-/230547616524?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35adb5730c#ht_2755wt_905
Fuck that. Get an incinerator. Hook it up to a generator, to power the computer we're going to get. I assume the computer itself is beyond the scope of this thread?
The sound system. Oh god, the sound system... Bass everywhere.
I'm going to start mapping out how the chair would look with all the suggestions
The sound system. Oh god, the sound system... Bass everywhere.
"Anesthesia - Pulling Teeth" will be our sound check for the bass. Any man who disagrees with me is wrong, and probably queer as well.
So what kind of sound system should we use? I found one that has 5.1 and 5 eggs from over 1,000 reviews. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121120
No, no no no no. You don't use a prebuilt computer; you don't use a prebuilt audio solution. We need two subwoofers, minimum, at least 15", and at least 2000 watts. Eight woofers, 12", 1000 watts. Twenty-two midranges, 6.5", 500 watts. Twenty-two tweeters, 1 1/8", 350 watts Eight supertweeters, 1", 200 watts. And a tactile transducer mounted on the chair. Maybe two.
Heres what I got so far as to what I think the chair would look like so far. Looks somewhat like a rocket ship.

[img_thumb]http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/7619/34545479.png[/img_thumb] Looks somewhat like a rocket ship.
I think we may need some sort of hand sanitizer dispenser on the desk so the mouse doesn't become sticky from all the cotton candy one would eat.
YOu forgot the tactile transducers. Slap two of these on the bottom. Plug into left and right subwoofer jacks. Rock out.
Some these things you wont be able to even fit. Such as the compactor. Also install of these babies on one or two of the arm rests http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SeaSense-Stainless-Blue-Lighted-LED-Cup-Holder-50091042-/400124011339?pt=Boat_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item5d293fe34b#ht_2555wt_939
Why are you attaching everything to the chair? I mean, the drinks and food should be off to the side, where you can actually access them easily.
Why are you attaching everything to the chair? I mean, the drinks and food should be off to the side, where you can actually access them easily.
If I do that, it would just be a chair with machines next to it.
Make it a room then. "Sanctuary" normally means "place of safety, often a church", not "thing I put my ass on".
If I do that, it would just be a chair with machines next to it.
and that would just be silly. also how many other people have a chair that has a built-in cotton candy machine and soda fountain!
Jackhammer Series Subwoofer.
