I kinda like this sci-fi esq approach.
I kinda like this sci-fi esq approach.
I think its cause gangsters in space was such a big success.
Nope, this'll be shit. III was already too over the top and quirky and as a result it lost a lot of the novelty for me. SR2 is classic because my character is wacky and stupid and everyone else is playing straight man. It's more fun when I feel like I'm going against the game.

GTA V is going to be a much better open-world game.
I'm gonna wait until they actually release a bit more information before deciding I know everything there is to know about the game since the last time they did trailers that were just parodies, not to mention that this one reveals very little anyway.
before SR2 owned GTAIV in every way now it sees GTAV will kick SRIV's ass
Im going to skip this one.. Its getting too lolsorandumXD for me.
GTAIV's story shits all over every SR game
I'll give this a try, probably with a couple of my friends too. It actually looks kind of fun.
They just don't understand what made SR2 so great. It wasn't that the game was "wacky and random", it was that the game itself was semi-serious but there was potential for crazy shit to happen. The game never hit you in the face with "this is supposed to be funny because its wacky", it just gave you the tools to make it as crazy as you wanted it to be.
Hopefully it'll be like SR2 was to SR1 where they looked and played the same, but 2 had significant improvements to everything. Still though, I miss the old street "gang wars" theme, and the story in the Third was just plain lazy compared to 2.
I wish they kept this as DLC to SR3. It looks and probably plays very similar to SR3 with little change besides the "Enter the Dominatrix" powers you get.
before SR2 owned GTAIV in every way now it sees GTAV will kick SRIV's ass
This is a shitty comparison because nearly every game owns GTAIV in every way. I've typed in other threads long essays explaining exactly why I feel SR3 was superior to SR2 but I don't feel like typing the same thing again so I'll just try to condense it. SR2 is mostly not challenging and not much fun. The most fun I've had with SR2 is fucking around in coop. SR3 is mostly more challenging and more fun than SR2. The most fun I've had with SR3 is fucking around in coop. That said, I've had much more fun fucking around in coop with SR3 than SR2. SR3 wins for my money.

it's really mind-numbing to think of all of the things they removed. some of them are so integral to games in general that it boggles my mind when i try to think of why they would remove them shit like robbing stores, the mall, most of the activities, buying cribs, minigames like fucking hookers, food, a fucktrillion of clothes and outfits, more than 2 weapons per weapon category, car stores,REPLAYING MISSIONS/CUTSCENES... the thing that ticks me off is they removed pretty much ALL depth to character customization . the only real thing they added to that was graphics and jigglebones. the clothes also blow, because all there is is socks, undies, shoes, pants, shirt, wrists, glasses, earrings/piercings/jewlery, and hat. that's it. shit like wrists and jewelery are incredibly limited, can't have a watch on one arm and a bracelet on the other or anything. clothes try so hard to be ~UNIQUE~ that everybody ends up looking nearly the same because a lot of the clothes are fucking atrocious looking. i purposely omitted backpacks because there's only 2 in the game. sr2 had a bazillion different layers of clothing. probably wrong on this because i haven't played in months, but there was socks, shoes, pants, undies, wrists, necklaces (3 lengths with pendants too), rings, undershirts, overshirts, coats, glasses, piercings, earrings, head gear, and face stuff iirc. not only are there a lot of slots to throw your clothes in, but there's also infinitely more depth in coloring, different "wears" like low or high or tucked in or shit, and 4-6 or so different clothes stores instead of the.... 3 from SR3. i could go on for ages. the only thing SR3 has over 2 is that it's more optimized on the PC also forgot to mention picking up objects and getting special weapons from activities, and the dumb progression where you can get a skill that makes you literally unkillable + giving you overpowered weapons, getting rid of PRETTY MUCH ALL MULTIPLAYER except for some dumb "whorde" mode that nobody played + co-op. although sr2's multiplayer was disappointing compared to SR1, fact still stands that they got rid of shit like protect the pimp, blinged out ride, gangster brawl, team gangster... i mean, why the fuck? one of the lead directors behind saints row said that "every 3-4 months we had to cut things because we had too much content" Edited: oh, the co-op for SR3. they made it easier to play with other players and made it possible to join other plays who had DLC, but the netcode was terrrrrible. OH OH OH and the DLC for SR2 was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better. and that's saying a lot considering that SR2's DLC was okay at best. SR3 gave you shitty reskins and blatant cut content, dumb missions that try to keep that stupid "LOOK HOW OVER THE TOP WE ARE" humor, and activities that you have pretty much no incentive to play a lot of my points are coming from this video, so... but out of all of this shit, the BIGGEST flaw with SR3 is that the story is fucking abysmal. they try to make you feel all "aw" when sad things happen, like when pierce asks you if it was worth it after you kill killbane, when kiki gets killed by killbane, when gat dies in the first minute, and other things i've forgotten about considering how forgettable the story in SR3 was. there's pretty much no serious moments in the story so players, like myself, did not give a shit about any of the characters. SR2, on the other hand, took itself mostly serious in the story department, with only a few straight up "humor" missions. that way the game still made you laugh when it was appropriate, but also had the capacity to make you feel for characters. remember carlos getting dragged behind that truck and the protagonist having to shoot him because he couldn't free him after desperately trying to? or when gat buries shogo alive after he insists that they fight at aishia's funeral? or when aishia is killed by the bald dude? or that entire scene when you have to save gat from the hospital when people are trying to murder him? when mearo unknowingly crushed his wife in the monster truck? or even that scene with julius and his anticlimatic death? yeah. that's just the tip of the iceberg. there were so many more likable characters in SR2 than 3, too. even if you can't remember their names, you know who they are. bald katana guy, shogo, mearo and his wife, mr fucking sunshine and his boss, julius, the soccer mom who dealt drugs, carlos, pierce and shaundi when they actually had personality... Edited: oh, and they didn't have "time to make all of this content?" i guess they didn't have time to make the game not disappointing and terrible either!!!

They didnt have the time to add them in. They rebuilt the city and the engine from the ground up.
let me repost all of my arguments from that thread in the video section
Very valid points. I will agree that SR2 had way more collectables and customization options to do in a much larger and more interesting city. The problem with that to me is that I had no motivation at all to collect or customize anything because for me the game was simply not fun to play. It was way too easy with boring missions with the most floaty movement controls. (Well, behind GTAIV that is. I would much rather play SR2 over GTAIV.) I felt no want to go out and do any of the cool things the developer put in for me. Also, this will be an unpopular opinion I know, but SR games are not games I played for the story. I could not give less shits about story in those games. In those games I'm looking for pure, unadulterated, arcade-y fun factor, like the original Doom or Serious Sam or even Thief 2 (For Thief 2, the developers made the cool levels first and then retrofitted some story afterwards for the most fun experience they could give. The fun of the game came first, the story came second.) And for the experience I wanted to have in the games, Saints Row 3 delivered that experience better than Saints Row 2 could. I remember watching a video LP of Saints Row 1 (because I would never actually want to play that game,) from start to finish, and when [sp]Lin died and any of the gangs were taken down, I felt absolutely no connection to any of the events happening in the game.[/sp]
They just don't understand what made SR2 so great.
the game literally had me spray shit on people's real estate for points im pretty sure it went beyond giving you the tools and pointed you in the direction of doing wacky shit
Its kinda like dead rising in this sense. Dead rising 1 was supposed to have a serious and movie-like storyline, but as soon as you put on a severbot helmet and kids clothes, the tone of the game changes completely, and is still enjoyable. Saints row 1 and 2 probably had the same effect in a sense, but they took out the serious part and replaced it with dildos bats and shit. Not to say that shit isn't fun or anything, it just gets more boring quicker because there is no variety.
Apparently, from what I read from another SR4 thread, SR2 was the same engine as SR1, but vastly improved. This game is based off the same engine as SR3. Should I make the connection that SR4 will be vastly improved over SR3? I mean, it would only make sense. I'll wait to see more facts about the game to make judgements.
They didnt remove anything. They didnt have the time to add them in. They rebuilt the city and the engine from the ground up. [editline]16th March 2013[/editline] Literally your whole argument about what they removed is bullshit because they didnt remove anything. You cant remove something that wasnt there to begin with.
How about this: There is much less content in SR3 than SR2 and it seriously hurts the game's value, making it worse than any other SR game. This is the exact same argument, phrased differently so you can comprehend it.
Nope, this'll be shit. III was already too over the top and quirky and as a result it lost a lot of the novelty for me. In SR3 you have to play wacky since that how it was made.

Wow really Deep Silver?? Saints Row was actually good because of the storyline and the missions. Saints Row 2 brought Co-up and an o-k storyline. Saints Row 3 was just way over the top and mother fucking Johnny Gat died at the beginning, what the fuck!! If Saints Row 4 does not have the Gat back it can go die in a fire. also Saints Row 3 contained way less clothing and customizing than the previous titles

Nice logic.

Saints Row games have always tried way too hard for my taste
Saints Row games have always tried way too hard for my taste
By Saints Row games do you mean "only the third one"? I don't even see how anyone could possibly get that vibe from the first two.
